Jisung's POV
The second our feet hit the sand, I couldn't stop smiling.
The ocean stretched out in front of us, the water sparkling beneath the morning sun. A cool breeze carried the smell of salt through the air as gentle waves rolled onto the shore.
I slipped my shoes off and buried my feet in the warm sand.
"Come on!" I called over my shoulder.
Minho chuckled as he bent down to take off his own shoes.
"You're excited."
"Obviously."
Before he could say anything else, I took off running toward the water.
"Ji!" he laughed. "At least give me a warning!"
The cold water splashed around my ankles as I reached the shoreline.
I turned around just as Minho caught up.
Without thinking, I kicked a little water in his direction.
It landed on the bottom of his shorts.
He froze.
"...Did you just splash me?"
I bit my lip, trying not to smile.
"...Maybe."
A grin spread across his face.
"Oh, you're in trouble now."
I squealed and ran.
Minho chased after me through the shallow water, both of us laughing so hard we could barely stay on our feet.
A bigger wave crashed into us, soaking us from the knees down.
"That's cheating!" I shouted between laughs.
"I didn't make the wave!"
"Liar!"
He finally caught up, wrapping an arm around my waist before I could escape again.
"Got you."
I laughed so hard my stomach hurt.
"Okay, okay! I surrender!"
"For now?" he teased.
"...For now."
He smiled before letting me go.
We spent the next hour wandering along the shoreline, collecting seashells, taking pictures, and simply enjoying being together.
At one point, Minho insisted we take a selfie.
I leaned against his shoulder just before the camera clicked.
Instead of looking at the lens, I found myself looking at him.
He noticed afterward.
"You weren't even looking at the camera."
"I know."
"What were you looking at?"
I smiled.
"You."
His ears turned pink, making me laugh all over again.
Eventually, we found a quiet place to sit where the waves barely reached our feet.
I rested my head against his shoulder.
Neither of us spoke.
We didn't have to.
The sound of the ocean said enough.
After a while, I looked out at the endless water.
"When this trip is over..."
I paused.
"I think I want to stop worrying so much."
Minho turned toward me.
"I know that's easier said than done."
"I know."
I looked down at my hands.
"I'm still scared."
He gently intertwined our fingers.
"You don't have to stop being scared."
I looked back at him.
"You just don't have to face it by yourself."
I felt tears sting my eyes.
Not because I was sad.
Because, for the first time in a long time...
I actually felt like I could trust and believe someone with my entire heart.
I squeezed his hand.
"Thank you."
He smiled.
"Always."
We sat there until the sun slowly began to dip lower in the sky once again.
The waves kept rolling in.
People walked past us, laughing with their families and friends.
The breeze carried the smell of the ocean all around us.
I closed my eyes for a moment, committing everything to memory.
The sound.
The warmth of the sun.
The feeling of Minho's hand holding mine.
The peace I'd been searching for.
When I opened my eyes again, I smiled.
Maybe life wasn't perfect.
Maybe there would still be difficult days waiting for me when we got home.
But there would also be days like this.
Days filled with laughter.
With ocean air.
With photographs that captured memories I'd never want to forget.
And with the person who never once let go of my hand.
I stood up, brushing the sand from my shorts before holding my hand out toward Minho.
"Come on."
He took it without hesitation.
"Where to?"
I smiled as we started walking down the shoreline together.
"I don't know."
I looked out at the endless ocean stretching before us.
"But as long as we're together..."
"I think we'll be okay."
Hand in hand, we continued walking along the beach, our footprints disappearing behind us as the tide rolled in.
The future was uncertain.
But in that moment, surrounded by the sound of the waves and the warmth of the setting sun, it didn't feel frightening anymore.
It felt full of possibility.
The End.
