The getaway

That night I started to pack my bags. I filled it with clothes for winter and summer, and all of my panties and shoes, now I could get the personal stuff. I brought a family portrait of my family and I, my teddy bear dad gave me when I was born, a necklace my mother brought from the airport when she forgot to get me a souvenir, and a drawing my brother made for me when he was 6. I had to hold back the tears, I would never see them again.

Mason had found a young moms home that would take us in if we had a plan and a steady income, we jumped on the opportunity. It was cross state so we decided his car would be safer to drive in. I finished packing my bag and waited for mason to text me he was out the front. I decided to read my pregnancy book while I waited. Minutes passed until finally, beep!

I checked the message:

'I'm in your drive way. Mason x'

Luckily my family were heavy sleepers I folded up my good bye not on the bed and creeped down the stairs towards the front door, luck was on my side because I escaped undetected. I saw masons car and through my bags in the back before climbing into the passengers seat.

"Good morning beautiful" he smiled to me, I only blushed.

"Can we please get out of here?" I pressed, smiling at my own tone.

"Your not a morning person are you?" Mason mocked me before starting the car and taking us onto the high way. I didn't speak for a very long time, I just thought about my family and friends, was all of this worth losing them? Of coarse, my child will always come first, but it made me terribly sad to leave them all.

After a while mason broke the silence.

"What do you think our house will look like?" He asked, obviously lost in thought himself.

"Probably small, 2 bedrooms, a window if we're lucky" I joked darkly.

"I hope we won't have to stay their long. Once we start working and finish school online we should be able to get our own home" mason drifted off into his own plans for us, I just sat their wishing I could be as hopeful.

We stopped for my first pregnancy craving along the way, ham and peanut butter, and mason took a photo of me for the baby book, enjoying my snack. We drove cross country for 2 days ignoring our phones and spending the nights in drive in motels, until finally we drove up to the venue.

Their were high walls surrounding to resort like home. We drove up towards the buzzer and we were allowed entrance. As we drove through we found high rise apartment buildings, they weren't divey, in fact they looked quite luxurious. We went to the front counter to meet Ruth, our host.

"Hello, I'm Ruth, we spoke on the phone mason, and you must be Maddison?" Ruth mentioned to me.

I smiled and nodded. "It's lively to meet you"

" I'm so glad to have you here, please let me show you too your room" Ruth ushered us into the elevator.

"Maddison how for along are you?" Ruth asked making conversation.

"3 months" I answered smiling and patting my stomach, which only looked as if I had a large lunch and not a baby.

We made it to the 13th floor, where Ruth joined us on the couch to inform us on our new home.

" this was an idea of the governments to assist young moms, you are more than welcome to stay as long as you like asking as one of you is either working or going to school, we ask that when you are able to pay us you do, but their wont be any hurry, their is a OB GYN on sight as well as a team of doctors for anything you need and we hold parenting classes if you start to get anxiety. We have books in the lobby for whenever you need them and we all try to help each other out as much as possible so do try to get along with the other mothers. Once the baby is born their are more options for activities their all in the brochure, other than that, welcome" Ruth smiled, almost out of air. I exhaled deeply after all the information I just took in. Mason walked Ruth to the door and thanked her for her hospitality and then turned to me.

"What now roomy?"
