Come Back to Me:

The corridor outside Leah's room was already crowded.

Amanda and David were there.

They had been waiting anxiously, expecting to hear the first cry of their grandson.

Instead, they were watching nurses rush in and out of Leah's room.

Lilly stood outside the doors, completely frozen.

She could hear the alarms.

She could hear voices.

But she couldn't see Leah.

"I need to go back in," Lilly whispered.

A nurse stepped in front of her.

"Lilly, they're working on Leah. You need to stay outside."

"No."

"Lilly—"

"No! She needs me!"

Amanda rushed over and grabbed Lilly's arm.

"Lilly, sweetheart, let them work."

"I can't just stand here!"

David stepped beside Amanda.

"They know what they're doing."

"She's my wife!"

"I know."

Lilly's breathing became faster.

Then she heard shouting from inside.

"Her pressure is dropping!"

Lilly's face went completely white.

"No..."

Amanda immediately wrapped her arms around her.

"It's okay."

"No, it's not."

The alarms suddenly changed.

Lilly looked toward the door.

"What does that mean?"

Nobody answered.

Then—

"She's lost her pulse!"

Lilly's entire body went still.

"What?"

Amanda's hand flew to her mouth.

David stared at the doors in disbelief.

Lilly stumbled backwards.

"No."

The medical team inside moved even faster.

"Start CPR."

Lilly heard the words through the doorway.

And completely broke.

"No, no, no..."

She turned toward the wall.

Her fist slammed into it.

"Lilly!"

Again.

And again.

She barely felt the pain.

"Lilly, stop!"

"I can't lose her!"

Her knuckles were splitting, blood running down her fingers.

Amanda grabbed her arm.

"Please stop hurting yourself!"
