Ben: (looking up from his food, across Ashton) So, Ashton. Tell us a bit about yourself.
Ashton: (surprised, shy) Um. I'm attending university, right now. Plan to finish this Fall semester, actually.
Ben: What university?
Ashton: University of Central Florida.
Diane: (interested) What major?
Ashton: Biology. Concentration in Environmental Science.
Luke: (smiling, teasingly) Ashton likes plants.
Ben: (smiling) Wonderful. So you just work at the resort part-time? (Ashton nods) Fine man.
Jack: (scowling, butting in) Makes you wonder how you settled for a loser like Luke.
Ben: (sitting beside Jack, elbows him slightly) Jack!
Jack: What? Ashton's getting himself an education. Luke's a high school dropout. (smirks) He's such a loser.
Luke: (bristling) I didn't come here to be interrogated about my relationship. If you don't like it, get out. No one even invited you. (getting more upset, reserved) You should've stayed in Oz.
Jack: (mocking) Is Luke going to cry? (scoffs) Serves you right.
Luke: (angry) Shut up.
Ashton: (places a hand on Luke's shoulder) Lukey, calm down. (voice lowered) Don't listen to him. (Luke starts to calm down)
Jack: Whipped, aren't you? (to Ashton) What's he got on you?
Ashton: (confused, Luke bristles) Excuse me?
Jack: (takes a gulp of soda, points at Luke) The loser. What's he got on you? Blackmail? He threaten to destroy your house? Reveal a crime or something?
Ashton: (offended) Excuse me?
Ben: (under his breath) Jack. That's enough.
Jack: (smirking) Or are you really just a faggot like Luke?
Ben: (loudly) Jack!
Luca: What's a faggot?
Ben: (exasperated) Luca! Don't say that!
Jack: (ignores Ben) Boys who like boys. Bad people, Luca.
Ben: (outraged) That is enough!
Luke: (gets to his feet, seething) I'm leaving. (to Ashton, holding his hand out) Ashton?
Ashton: (gets to his feet, stops, turns to Jack, calmly) Call us what you want. I don't need to justify myself to you. Neither does Luke. (glares, fierce) But call either of us a faggot again and I'll send you back to your abusive bitch of a father in a post office box. (holds Luke's hand, proud) I love Luke. That's all you need to know. What you choose to do with that information is up to you.
Luke: (amazed) Ashton...
Ashton: (smiles at Luke) Lets go, Lukey. (to Ben and Diane) Sorry that we ruined lunch for you. (to Luca) Don't use that word, Luca. It's a very offensive word used to describe a group of misunderstood people. (facing Jack) Some people just like to make assumptions about things they don't understand. Those people are the real bad people.
