The first photograph looked like nothing.
Detective Collins had seen thousands of photographs that looked like nothing.
A street.
A crowd.
A celebrity.
A car half-hidden behind a row of people.
Nothing.
He stood behind the analyst's chair, one hand resting against the back of it, and watched the image enlarge across the monitor.
"That's the original?"
"Yes."
"Source?"
"Fan submission. Posted publicly three days ago. Original file obtained from the account holder."
"Timestamp?"
"Four sixteen p.m."
Collins nodded.
"And location?"
"Outside the hotel."
He looked at the photograph again.
Brendon was visible near the entrance, wearing a dark jacket and talking to someone from his tour team.
Nothing unusual.
The hotel entrance was crowded.
Fans stood behind barriers.
A taxi waited at the curb.
People crossed the street.
And behind all of it, barely visible through the gaps, was a grey vehicle.
Collins pointed.
"That."
The analyst zoomed in.
The vehicle became pixelated.
Grey.
Large.
Possibly an SUV.
"Could be anything," she said.
"It could."
Collins stepped back.
"Next."
The second photograph appeared.
Brendon outside a venue.
Different city.
Different day.
Different clothes.
Different crowd.
The analyst had already marked the relevant section.
A grey vehicle sat across the street.
Collins leaned forward.
"That's interesting."
The analyst nodded.
"Different angle."
She enlarged it.
The rear of the vehicle was visible.
"Plate?"
"Can't read it."
"Anything distinctive?"
"Rear light cluster."
Collins studied it.
"Could be the same model."
"Could."
"Wheel design?"
