The first photograph looked harmless.

Brendon almost said so.

He stopped himself.

Collins had spread the photographs across the hotel table in no particular order, though Brendon suspected there was a very particular reason the detective had chosen each one.

There were too many of them.

Fan photographs. Screenshots from social media. Images pulled from videos. A photograph taken outside the venue two nights ago. Another from a restaurant. One from the pavement outside the hotel.

Abby appeared in some.

Bonnie appeared in others.

Brendon appeared in almost all of them.

And now that he knew what he was looking for, he couldn't stop looking.

"That's the hotel," he said.

Collins nodded.

Brendon picked up the photograph.

He was standing outside the entrance, sunglasses on despite the grey afternoon, one hand lifted toward someone who had called his name.

A crowd had gathered behind the barrier.

Abby wasn't in the photograph.

Neither was Bonnie.

He looked at the cars.

Nothing.

"Why this one?"

"Look at the left side."

Brendon frowned.

Collins pointed.

A grey SUV was parked half a block down.

"That's the first one."

Brendon looked at him.

"The first what?"

"The first time we've found it."

He turned back to the photograph.

"Found it doing what?"

"Watching you."

The words landed differently this time.

Brendon stared at the vehicle.

"It's a London street."

"I know."

"There are thousands of grey SUVs."

"I know that too."

Collins slid another photograph across the table.

"This was taken seven days ago."

Brendon looked.

Another venue.

Another crowd.

Another version of himself smiling for cameras.

And there—

Grey SUV.

Same general shape.

Same dark rear windows.

Same distinctive rear light arrangement.

Parked farther away this time.

"That's the same car."

"We don't know that yet."

Brendon looked up.

Collins wasn't being difficult.
