i still half expect to see you

walking around the halls much like i do

although your posture was usually better than mine.
faint voices in the back of my memories prepare me

for a glimpse of you walking around every corner

i have concluded that the every other day reminder of your existence
isn't enough
you relentlessly linger in the halls of this high school
you linger on the streets by my home

you linger in the back of my throat

it's been over a year and sometimes
i swear i still smell you in these

rapidly fading memories

here's looking at you.
