“Hey babe.” Lips pressed against my temple and it’s safe to say I jumped six feet into the air. I was in my own little world, something that generally happened when I was sat alone in the cafeteria, waiting for the usual group to get here.
“Matthew!” I scolded, my heart beat erratic as I put a hand over my chest, like that would automatically calm it down. He slid next to me, spluttering with laughter.
“Sorry.” He chuckled, winding an arm round my waist and pulling me closer, kissing my head again. “What were you thinkin’ about?”
I shrugged. “I was spaced out.” I replied.
“As usual.” He teased, “sometimes I think you live in your own little world, baby.”
“I do. And it’s awesome.” I grinned. He grinned back and stole a fry off my tray, eating happily before dissolving into some rant about how he got kept behind in Math and how Mr. Peters was an idiot.
I took the opportunity to stare at him, spacing out again. His black hair was spiked up, it’s usually messy yet still styled look. His emerald green eyes glittered slightly as he continued his babble, his lips curving up in an attractive smirk when he spoke. His blue hoodie made his skin look paler than usual, but he could pull it off. It was baggy on his body but I would bet anything that he had a tight shirt on underneath it, showing off every muscle of his toned chest. He looked up at me and smirked again,
“are you checking me out?” He asked, his white teeth glistening in his perfect smile, his eyebrows furrowing the tiniest bit as he teased me.
“uh-huh.” I admitted, blushing slightly, looking away from his piercing gaze. His arm retracted from my waist and his hand tipped my chin up, so I was facing him again, leaning his forehead against mine.
“your so cute.” He whispered, grinning before pulling my lips up to meet his. The way his lips pressed against mine never failed to send shivers down my spine, chilling shivers that made goosebumps erupt all over my skin. I fully intended to pull away, due to the PDA rules at the school, but his tongue soon swiped along my lip, his fingers pinching my waist, lunch long forgotten. My arms wrapped around his torso, linking behind his back. I was almost in his lap when I let his tongue inside my mouth. I tried fighting for dominance but he won as usual, smirking into my lips and tugging on my lower one with his teeth, making my head dizzy. A hand slammed against the table and we hurriedly snapped apart, detangling our arms from around each other and wiping our mouths with the backs of our hands, before looking up.
“Your faces.” Jake laughed. “so we allowed to sit with your girl today or is this a couples only thing?” Matt looked at me, I just smiled and returned to my fries as both Jake and Leighton sat across from us. All three of them had been friends since preschool. I’d only got to know them when Matt asked me out last year.
“Your an idiot, Jake.” Matt spoke. “that’s the second time Charl’s jumped in one lunch.” Jake threw his head back with laughter.
“that’s what you get for trying to get it on in the cafeteria.” He winked. “at least it was us and not the queen bitch.”
Leighton’s eyes glanced behind us and we followed his gaze to where Cassidy Parker was sitting. Her eyes flipped between her food and scanning the cafeteria for something she could tell on someone for. Meet the slut of the school and the principal’s daughter. The slightest hint of trouble and Cassidy was there in a flash, looking for her next reward from Daddy.
“there’s an upside to everything, huh?” I smiled, turning back to the table.
“right.” Jake replied, smiling back.
“So, what are you two up to tonight?” Leighton asked. I didn’t miss the suggestive tone in his voice. Matt must’ve told him we were hanging out at mine.
“we’re just watching a movie.” I could hear Matt’s eyes rolling.
“yeah, yeah, yeah.” Jake grinned.
“let’s just say we believe you, reckon you could tear yourselves away from the bedroom for one night, Saturday?” Leighton smirked.
“I suppose we could.” Matt replied, “What’s happening?”
“Leigh’s parents are out of town. Friday to Monday. We were thinking of having a party.” Jake replied.
“sounds good. You alright with that babe?” Matthew questioned.
“yeah, who’s going?” It’d been a while since I’d had a good party to go to and I was fuelled with excitement.
“Everyone.” Leighton answered. “we’ve just been spreading the word so undoubtedly people I don’t even know will be turning up.”
“those are the best kind of parties though.” I responded, just as my best friend skidded to a stop beside the table.
“So, it’s true.” She panted, leaning over with her hands on her thighs, breathing heavily. “your having a party?”
“told you.” Jake smirked, “it’s spreading round the school like wildfire.”
Leighton directed an answer at Michaela, “Yeah.” She grinned widely.
“Why are you so out of breath?” I asked. She looked up, her blue eyes drifting to my tray as she stole a fry and sat next to me.
“You won’t believe it.” She grinned. “I can’t even believe it!”
“Won’t believe what?” I asked.
"Charl, he asked me-" She narrowed her eyes slightly at me, scanning my confused eyes as I wondered who she was going on about.
“What was I talking about in English?” She questioned, as Matt pulled my hair away from my shoulder and rested his chin there, watching Kayla's red face with amusement.
“You were talking in English?” It slipped out before I could think about it. Matt laughed, his breath spanning over my skin, sparking butterflies in my stomach.
“You weren’t even listening.” She sighed.
“She spaces out a lot.” Matt told her, chuckling. I nudged him in the ribs with my elbow.
“It was your fault.” I spoke, “You were texting me and I wasn’t concentrating. Sorry Mick, what were you saying in English?”
“That Alex Parker kept looking at me and smirking in French this morning and I was saying how he was so hot and..”
“dreamy. Yeah, caught that bit.” I interrupted. “What were you so excited about?” Alex Parker had been Michaela’s crush for three years. They’d barely talked until they were biology partners two years ago. She was in love with him and talked about him every second of every day. She knew everything about him.
“Well he caught me like ten minutes ago by my locker and asked if I’d heard about Leighton’s party. I said no and he said well now you have. So wanna come with me?”
“No way,” I interrupted again, “He asked you out?” I squealed quietly with her and engulfed her in a hug. “that’s so cool. Wait. You said yes right?”
“Duh.” Kayla replied, “Who would say no to Alex Parker?” Her fingers twirled bleached blond hair round them as she spoke, dreamily.
“Alex Parker? As in Cassidy’s brother?” Jake asked, looking between us like we’d gone crazy.
“yeah.” Michaela shrugged, “he’s like totally polar opposite to that poisonous bitch though.”
“that’s great Kay.” I smiled, “told you he’d ask you out eventually.”
“I know.” She smiled back, pulling me into another hug. “So help me get ready Saturday? I’ll come round to yours before and you can help me.”
“ok.” I responded, settling back into Matty’s embrace. If I wasn’t excited for this party before, I definitely was now.
But little did I know, that would be the day my whole world started to spiral out of control. And that was only the beginning.
