I tapped my pen with impatience and stared at the clock, willing the hands to spin round to 3 o’clock so we could leave. I hated when lessons went slow. Especially when I was looking forward to hanging out with Matty after school. That was probably the reason it was going so slow. I guess it’s true that time moves three hundred times slower when you’re excited for something.
Glancing round the classroom, most of the others were working hard, and didn’t even seem to be noticing how slow that clock was moving. I looked down at the worksheet and I was consumed with he feeling of confusion. It supposedly didn’t help that I’d spaced out when Miss Hunter had been explaining the work. I was spacing out a lot more than usual today. I put it down to excitement. It had been a long time since me and Matthew were able to have some alone time properly, without interruptions. We’d told everyone who could interrupt us, not too, so it could just be us. And when it came to Matt, I spaced out a lot anyway, who wouldn’t? He is the most amazing guy I’ve ever been with.
“you look really confused.” A voice sounded in my ear, close to me. Shannon looked up at me as I turned my head. “Need a hand?”
“that’d be nice.” I replied, “I didn’t listen.”
“I know,” She laughed, quietly, “you looked a bit zoned but I didn’t wanna put attention on you by bringing you out of it.”
“well thanks.” I smiled. And she began explaining how to complete the first question. Needless to say, as a senior, I felt kinda dumb to not understand Math, but I’d never really understood it. Shannon was awesome though and with her explanation I got it within seconds.
Before I even knew it, six questions in, the bell went. I sighed with relief and stood, gathering my stuff and practically running to my locker.
“Meeting Matthew?” Kayla asked from her locker, two away from mine as I stuffed my file inside the small compartment and grabbed my messenger, slinging it over one shoulder.
“Yes and I just wanna get gone already. Remember, no calls. None!” I kissed her cheek and she mocked me with a grin.
“I know. It’s all you’ve said to me the past week.” Her voice was full of teasing. “go on, go.” And I did, running through the halls to meet Matt at his black Nissan something-or-other in the parking lot. I wasn’t good with cars and no matter how long he tried to explain them for, I still didn’t get it. The only car make I knew was Audi, because with all Matt’s ranting about it, you really couldn’t forget it, plus they tended to make really pretty cars. When I got out, I ran straight into Jake and Leighton.
“Hey.” They grinned down at me, “We left lover boy by his car. Take care of him tonight, girl. Make sure you do all the work.” Leighton winked and they both guffawed loudly and walked across the lot. Rolling my eyes, I scampered off towards his usual parking space.
He was leaning against the passenger side door with his arms crossed over his chest, hoodie sleeves pushed up to his elbow, and his eyes fixed on his converse clad feet.
“Hey Matty.” I spoke, standing right before him, watching his eyes flip to my shoes and then up to my eyes.
“Hey Charl.” He smiled, unfolding his arms and wrapping one instead around my waist, pulling me against him. “you ready?” he asked.
“yep.” I replied, before pressing onto the tip of my toes and sealing our lips together in a quick kiss. He pulled away first, grinning widely and stepping away from the car, to open the car door for me.
“After you baby.” He murmured, shutting the door after me and walking round the hood to the driver side, starting the engine. We linked hands over the console and he drove easily to my house, the ten minute drive silent, yet still extremely comfortable.
