Chapter 6

“Kyle, do you have her?” I sent, while running as fast as my feet could take me.

“Yeah. She has taken up a defensive stance, but has stopped running. And I think she can hear us.” He says.

I am feeling a bit frantic. I didn’t know she was even going to shift. There were instances of those being bitten gaining the ability, but it was rare. It took a strong genetic match for it to happen. Most werewolves were born from two full blooded wolves mating. “Ryan, have you caught up yet?”

“I am right behind Zeke.”

“Do you think this is why Vlad is after her?” I asked.

“I think it probably is what started the ball rolling ten years ago, but now I think it is personal. You marked her, and he’s pissed about it. He wants what he thinks you took from him.” Ryan answered candidly.

I see Kyle ahead, his dark brown shape almost blending into the trees surrounding him. I slow down, coming up to the scene, slowly. I look and see a new wolf to Kyle’s right, standing on a fallen tree, staring down at us. She is beautiful, a deep golden color with stunning green eyes, flecked with gold, which were staring back at me with fear and confusion. She was obviously exhausted as she was panting heavily.

“Ivy, we are here to help you.” I said softly into her mind.

“I know, I remember you. You helped me once before.  What the hell just happened to me?” she said. “And Kyle is right, I can hear all of you.” She said.

“I am sorry, this is my fault. Ten years ago I marked you to keep…someone, lets just say someone, from claiming you. This bite triggered your ability to change. I only marked you to protect you, not hurt you. I hope you will forgive me.” I explained.

“How do I change back? Can I change back?” she asked starting to sound panicked.

“It is not that hard, just think about the way you normally appear and feel; your body will listen. It will hurt, but not as much as the first time. We will stay with you as long as it takes.” I said, hoping she could see my regard for her in my eyes.

“She jumped down and came over to me, locking her green eyes on my silver ones. “You’d better.”

With that her eyes closed and the process started.  She howled as her bones and muscles rearranged themselves. Minutes later she lay panting, naked and shivering the process complete. She looked at me and promptly passed out. I changed, picked her up, and started back to the area we left our supplies. I was glad she was unconscious as this could have bee awkward.

“Not a word from any of you!” I sent to all of them. The only response I got was laughing.

“Oh god, Zeke, I think she is going into heat!” I said. “We need to get her out of here and away from me.” I said, starting to sound frantic. “How the hell did we miss this? If Vlad catches a whiff of her he is going to go bananas.”

“It explains what happened with Ivan.” Replied Kyle. “He couldn’t keep his eyes off her the entire class, and then he jumped her. I am willing to bet he did not have permission to touch her. I felt something as well, but I have a little more self control that him. Plus, it’s much stronger now.”

We finally got to our clothes; I dressed quickly and got Ivy into some sweatpants and a sweatshirt.

“Zeke, I want you and Kyle to stay with Ivy until she wakes. Ryan, you are with me, we have some information gathering to do. Pete, did you catch all of this?”

I asked.

“Yes sir, what do you need me to do?”

“Let Aiden know where Ivy is. Wait until the end of practice then tell her to meet Zeke and Kyle there. She should be awake by then and had time to gather herself together. Kyle, Zeke, you two and Aiden can get her home. Kyle, you stay with her at her place. Zeke, meet me at the office when you are finished.” I directed.

I looked down at Ivy, now curled against Kyle’s chest, and felt a pang of jealousy. I wanted nothing better than to take her in my arms, and protect her. It just was not possible, we needed answers first. Instead I had to settle for pulling a blanket out of the bag I brought and tucking it around her shivering form. I caressed her cheek, which brought a slight smile to her lips. I needed to leave before I lost my resolve. I looked at Kyle.

“Make sure she stays safe.” I said quietly, the threat of what I would do if she did not hung in the air.

With that, I turned and walked out of the woods, Ryan following in my wake.

“I want Ivan.” I said, steel in my voice. “he touched something that did not belong to him.”

“I think he is at Sal’s Bar. That is his normal hangout and his ass was recently kicked, I am sure he is drowning his sorrows in a few beers.” Ryan said. “I am not sure we should go in there, as his pack-mates are probably there too.”

“I don’t care.”

Ten minutes later we walked through the door of Sal’s. Ryan was right, there were six of them, all sitting around joking, and Ivan was the center of attention.

“I had her up against the wall, her tits in my hands. She has great tits.” Ivan said, “And if effing Kyle hadn’t shown up I would have screwed her right there!” He guffawed loudly.

I serenely walked up to the counter where a cute dark haired girl was working. I placed a wad of bills on the counter, about five grand in all. She looked at me confused.

I smiled. “its for damages, you may want to get you fellow co-workers and leave, this could get ugly, and I do not want you to get hurt.” She looked into my eyes and realized I was not joking. Turning, she said something to the Italian looking guy in the back, and I heard the backdoor slam shut.

I moved so fast, Ivan did not know what hit him. Before you could count to ten his five buddies were on the ground, totally unconscious. I had Ivan against the wall.

“So, you liked her tits, did you, Ivan?” I said quietly,” I pulled him forward then smashed him against the wall again, his head leaving a dent in the drywall. “I marked her, Ivan, she is mine, and I will not have anyone touch what is mine.” For emphasis, I punched him in the face.

“She belongs to my alpha, Vladimir, not you, asshole.” Ivan said, spitting blood while he spoke. That was seriously the wrong thing to say.

“The mark on her neck says otherwise. When you wake up you can tell my brother that.” I said, my voice a low growl.

I beat Ivan until he lay unconscious on the floor. I stood over him, my knuckles bleeding and my chest heaving. It felt good to take my anger out on someone. Now I had to get back to the business of finding out why she was a target in the first place, other than the fact my brother is a psychopath.
