Chapter 3

I am on campus, finally. The only way, was to attend the vocational technical school, I look too old for high school and teachers can’t fraternize with students, and I intend to fraternize. I really do not want to do this, but I see no alternative. I got myself settled and decide to check out the campus, but not before I checked on Chloe. I went to her dorm and watched, I know it’s a bit ‘stalker’ but I can’t stay away from her.  She arrived, joking with the boys; a wave of jealousy taking me. I realize they are harmless, but I want to spend time with her and she doesn’t know me anymore. Me heart is breaking. I think that was Darius’ plan. He wants to hurt me, it has become personal. I entertain him. She showers, and thankfully, so do the boys and they leave. I head in, getting the key from Ivy.

“Be patient with her. I think she has some residual memory. She is really freaked out by the vampires. She knew not to look them in the eye. She knows they are dangerous.” She told me. I gave her a sad smile. I do not want to get my hopes up.  What if she rejects me? I know I marked her, but I will not force myself on her. I stand in her room, inhaling her scent. It is her, no perfumes or chemicals, just her. I smile. I set the little box I brought on her pillow. It is my ducal ring. I want her to have it. I wrote her a simple note, letting her know how I feel, and I leave, pulling the door closed behind me.

I head to the student union, I am meeting Jon and Eli there, and the boys are taking Chloe. I want to be able to watch her, even if I can’t touch her. Just to see her smile would make my day. I push my way into the crowd, making my way to the back, avoiding the dance floor. I lean against the wall, keeping myself to the shadows. I see Chloe, being pulled by Mack, enter the dance floor, joined by the others. They looked somewhat carefree, but I could see how alert they actually were. The blonde vampire pushedsinto the dance floor and touches her, trying to pull her away from my guys. She jerked away, and the boys surrounded her; the other vampires melting out of the crowd to back up Tristan. I recognize them, they look young but are actually quite old. I am not happy to see them.

“Now why would I do that? She is going to be mine, I will have her, Darius promised. I might as well have her now.” He said.

“NO!” she yelled, backing away from him. Her foot caught and she started to fall, before I knew what I was doing I jumped forward and caught her, wrapping my arm around her waist and grabbing her flailing arm, pulling it against her.  I pulled her against my chest. She tried to turn to look at me.

“No, Just stay still.” I couldn’t help myself, I took the clip out of her hair and buried my face in it, I think I may have actually groaned, inhaling her scent. Oh god, I missed her. She melted against me, and we stood like that for a few moments, just happy to feel each other.  I cant help myself, I kiss her neck, making my way to my mark, brushing my lips over it, I feel her shudder in response, a soft moan excaping her slightly parted lips. I look at Tristan and smirk, daring him to act. His fury is written all over his face.

I’m sorry, Princess, you need to go with the boys. It isn’t safe for you here. I sent to her, pushing her to Nicholas, who whisked her out of the building. Jon and Eli came in, backing me and I smiled.

“Well Tristan, do you want to dance?” I asked, my smile irritating him further, he struck quickly, but not quickly enough. I am not a young pup, I have been associating with vampires for centuries, and I have a few tricks up my sleeve. I clothes-lined him as he tried to sidestep me. As he hit the floor, I smashed my fist into his chest, listening to him try to suck the air into his lungs.

“She is mine, if you try to touch her again, you die horribly. Darius can suck it. I will be coming for him next.” With that I beat him senseless, while Jon and Eli finished the other two. There was one missing, the girl. I started to panic; turning, I sprinted out the door, towards the dorm. It didn’t take me long, I burst through the door to find Kyle dealing with Isa. She is vicious, but Kyle is up to the task, I see Vash with Chloe in his arms. Its ok, she is just unconscious; she took a good hit to the face. Ivy says she is fine. Kyle slammed Isa against the wall and I jumped in. “Kyle, I will finish this.” I grabbed her, and pinned her to the wall by her neck, as she glared daggers at me. “ I would normally kill you for this, but I want you to pass a message on to Darius, as your brothers may not be capable of coherent speech for a while.” The look of real fear crossed her features. “I am glad I got your attention now, I will kill anyone who messes with her again. Do you understand?”  She nodded and I dropped her to the floor; she got up and ran off. I strode over and took Chloe from Vash. I sat on her bed, and held her close, waiting for her to wake up.  Kyle came in, wearing nothing but a pair of jeans.

“Is she ok?” he looked as if he wanted to cry. “That vampire was so damned fast, I tried to grab her but she got a punch off, I am really sorry Vladimir.”

“it’s ok, you did good. I didn’t even realize she slipped away during the fight with her brothers. I am glad you were here.” I spoke softly, meaning every word.

“Ok, why are there a whole bunch of hot guys in my room?” Chloe said. “And why am I sitting on the lap of the hottest one?”

I looked down at her, “So you think I’m hot?”

“And you smell good.” She turned her head into my chest and inhaled. I chuckled.

“Well, you seem to be feeling better, so I need to go.” I slid her off my lap, onto her bed.  Standing up, I glanced down at her and almost lost my resolve, she looked disappointed.

“Will I see you again?” she asked.

I shrugged. “I was just in the right place at the right time. Stay out of trouble.” I left. I don’t know how long I am going to be able to keep this up. Chloe is my mate, and I need her. It isn’t in my nature to be patient.
