AN: Thank you, everyone, for your patience. I have been developing a web site, and it has consumed my free time, as well as the class I have been teaching. I will try to upload more frequently. Also, I am pushing some envelopes, as I really like Tristan, so I am not sure where I am going with this. the next few chapters will be setting up some stuff, so be patient. Love you guys! Chapter 13
**Chloe**
I woke from my nap, refreshed. After Tristan faded away, Vladimir and I talked, reveling in each others company. I couldn’t stay mad at him. I knew he had no control, his actions showed that. I know what he is capable of in the bedroom, and what I saw was just the satisfaction of lust, nothing more, a base animal reaction. I headed downstairs to find Jax’s mom, Gwen. I had to ask her a question. Something has been nagging at me since Tristan showed up in my dream.
Thumping down the narrow wood stairs, I bounced into the kitchen.
“Someone’s nap must have been good.” Jax muttered. His mom slapped the back of his head affectionately.
“She isn’t your sister, you don’t need to tease her.” Gwen stated, a hint of a laugh escaping.
“Can I speak to you in private?” I said to Gwen. “I have a question about mates,” I blurted. Jax glared at me and left the room, in a huff. I could tell he was still angry at me for staying with Tristan. “Can someone have more than one mate?”
“It happens, rarely. Usually the female or male needs more than one; like in the instance of high mortality. If a pack is decimated, and needs more children, a male may have two females, to increase the pack size quickly. It is rarer to have a female with two males, but it has happened.
“What does a person do if it happens?” I asked her. “And what if the mate isn’t the same species, for instance, a wolf with a vampire mate?”
“This sounds rather specific. What is this really about?” Gwen asked.
I didn’t know how else to say it so I just spit it out. “I think I have two mates, and I don’t know what to do.” I sighed. “I love Vladimir, but I feel drawn to Tristan as well. I feel like I can’t live without either of them. The problem being, I don’t think either of them is willing to share.”
“You are unique. You play a major role in the Vampire prophesies and this may be a part of it. There must be a reason you need two mates. It only happens when there is a cause.” She sighed. “You are scheduled to see Felix tonight, remember. In fact you should head over. He said to wait for him in his kitchen, he wasn’t sure when he would wake up. He is a bit of a night owl.”
I noticed her shiver, but I just chalked it up to our conversation. Pondering my problem, I made my way to the house indicated. I knocked, and when no one answered, I slipped inside and entered the kitchen. The clock on the microwave said ten, so I sat down to wait, I sat there for an hour; just as I was deciding that I had been stood up, I heard a noise. I turned from the window in time to feel a strong grip around my neck, and feel someone, a male someone, sniff my neck, then run his tongue along the path his nose just took. I was being pressed into the counter so hard my back was hurting and a feeling of panic was surging in me.
“You smell delicious.” He rasped in my ear, his breath caressing my neck. I heard a commotion outside, and I thought I heard someone yell about a crazy vampire trying to get in, but my attention was drawn back into the almost black swirling eyes of the predator in front of me. His fangs were out, and he started scraping them along my neck. “You have been taken…” he never got to finish the last statement, as his door burst in and Tristan pulled him off me and threw him across the room.
