This didn't feel right.

Alone in an empty room, the darkness enveloped your broken form, leaving you colder than you've ever felt before. Curled in the middle of the bed that was too big for just one person, your hands pressed against your ears tightly as tears streamed down your paled complexion. The reminder of what today was wouldn't seem to go away as his voice played loops in your mind, leaving your body to shake and your stomach to churn. You left him. You shouldn't be feeling this way but as the dreaded day came after almost a year apart, you couldn't help but break down.

It was your anniversary. You should be wrapped up in his arms enjoying the day that you both took the next step and became an official couple. This was the day that you came clean to the fans a year later, the day he asked you to move in, the day he always managed to take off to make you feel loved. But it was all gone the moment you stepped out the door you called home and never came back, escaping to god knows where just to get him off your trail.

All to save his face from being slandered by the press. Yes, it was a good reason but it didn't cure the heartbreak that dominated your thoughts ever since the day you left. You missed him. You missed his touch, his playful attitude, the way he made you smile without even trying. You missed it all and with that, depression quickly seeped into your system, bringing thoughts that you knew you should never have. It was for him though and that was enough to keep you here and not back into his arms. His career rising, he didn't need that and if you had a chance to help, you wouldn't think twice about it.

But why did doing the right thing have to hurt so much?

The night young and the hours of your sorrow looming ahead, it was all disturbed by the knock on your door, weak hands trying to wipe away some of the evidence of your previous activities. Walking to the door, you let out a shaky breath and clenched your eyes shut before you answered.

If only you looked through the peephole before you yanked open the door. His tired form standing on the concrete walkway laid out in front of your apartment, his flushed cheeks swelled with gasps of breath as his gaze never left yours. Eyes widened, you tried to shut the door but James' foot disturbed the quick action as his ragged voice filled the silent air.

"N-no. Don't leave me again. Just stay and listen to what I have to say." Did you have a choice? Frozen, your eyes welled with fresh tears as your feet seemed to turn to cement right there and then.

"I-I don't even know where to begin to be honest. I looked for you for months and just when I thought that I should give up, I heard you were here. I know it sounds stupid but I ran straight from the signing. No car, no taxi, nothing. All that seemed to cross my mind was having you in my arms again instead of being lost inside and plagued with questions on what I did wrong. On why you left a relationship I thought was perfect." He paused, his breath slowly coming back as he took a step forward, extending a hand only for you to reject the simple act.

"This relationship we had....no we never ended it.....we have, is so different baby girl. You make me feel like I actually deserve you and I still want that. I want your lips back on my mine. I want you to tell me how much you love me every night before we go to bed so I can tell you just how hard I fell for you. Hell, I don't even need a reason to tell you that you have my heart and it will only belong to you. I guess what I'm trying to say is I can't live without you." Trying again, his arms pulled you forward, enveloping you in a hug you didn't push away from as you held on tightly. This is what you were waiting for and you would have to be stupid to reject James after he spent so much time looking for you unlike your previous thoughts that he just forgot.

"I want to be yours. I want to wake up every morning to see you in my arms, your bright eyes already open and seeming to stare straight at your soul." Breaking the embrace, he dug inside his coat pocket, his gaze growing more determined as he lowered himself to one knee.

"I want you to marry me Mary Elizabeth. I don't want to be alone anymore." That was it. That was the final straw as you shakily nodded, your body collapsing onto his as you arms wrapped tightly around his neck as you buried yourself in the crook between his neck and shoulder.

"I'm so sorry for leaving! They told me that if I didn't, they would ruin your career and I couldn't ruin your future!" Speaking against his shirt, your words were muffled but you knew he heard as he pulled you to look at him, his lips crashing upon yours in a silent approach of showing you just how much you were needed in his life.

"Baby. You are my future and if that means quitting, I would do it in a heartbeat. You mean more to me than the money and the fame. Yes, I know that the fans would be devastated but they'll understand. They won't make me give up that love when they can clearly see how much you mean to me. Look in my eyes and tell me if you can say anything different."

Looking into the depths of his hazel eyes, you saw nothing but pure love as he held you close, heart beats seeming to intertwine as one as his arms pulled you closer against his heaving chest. He was scared. Scared, you would say no to his previous request or worse, tell a lie just to get his hopes up and for you to leave and make him a wreck all over again. Tears welling behind (e/c) eyes, you struggled to keep them in check, dried remains of your previous fits caking your face as you didn't answer. Proof that you believed every word he said.

"I don't care if I have to start my career all over again. I don't care if you say this the worst decision I have ever made. I just want you again."

You needed him and to make it even better, he needed you too.
