‘’For this dance lesson, I’m going to pair you all up.’’ The teacher said, holding a clipboard with a bunch of names on it.

She had a stern look on her face, looking a little sour. There was this one guy in your class, his name was James, and he always made jokes about it when you would go out to eat with the group. He was the funny one, and you had been eying him ever since he walked through the door, joining your dance class.

You knew him from around, living a block away from you, and your mothers being friends. He had the most perfect face in the history of perfection. And the muscles that were showing when he had a tank top on were on your mind all the time. Most of the girls in your class saw the same thing you did, whispering and giggling, standing around him, making you practically invisible.

When you were alone with a few girls they would only talk about the beauty he is on the outside. You saw that too, of course, how could someone not see it? But you fell for the humoristic side of him. The little things he did when he thought no-one was watching.

You woke up from your thoughts when your name was called.

‘’(y/n) will be paired up with James.’’ The woman said looking at you two. You gulped, repeating the same thing over and over again in your head. You turned your head a little, meeting his gaze. He looked nervous, as if he didn’t liked it at all as his jaw tightened which made your heart drop, thinking of a million things that could be wrong with you.

All the couples scattered around on the floor, James standing in front of you.

‘’Hi.’’ He said, smiling. You rolled your eyes as he was being very bi polar today.

‘’Hi.’’ You said, just to be polite. You began rehearsing, him picking you up as the dance moves required a lot of intimate touches. You practiced like that in quiet, both of you concentrating on your dancing. You still felt a little let down by the face he made earlier, and you needed to know what it meant.

After the dance class, you walked your way home that was just a couple of blocks away from the school. Drifted away in thoughts, absentmindedly twirling your hair around your finger, you felt two hands on your waist.

‘’Boo!’’

‘’AARGH! James, you tease.’’ You screamed out, watching his hazel eyes smile with matching grin.

You could’ve known he would do something like that, he lived 1 block away from you. Usually he was already gone, before you even left the building.

‘’Aren’t you going to the gym?’’ You asked, knowing his routine very well. He walked next to you, casually massaging his neck with one hand.

‘’No, I’m driving my mom to her check up at the hospital in half an hour.’’ He said, looking at the ground, kicking some rocks. He didn’t have to explain what it was about. You felt bad for him, forgetting about the look he gave you earlier.

‘’How’s her knee?’’ You asked.

‘’It’s bad. But they just won’t take the risk of operating her. According to them she’s ’too young’. ‘’

‘’I can see why they think that. They would have to replace it every couple of years.’’ You said, looking up at the guy.

‘’I know. I know. But I just hate to watch her walk with so much pain.’’ He looked down at you with a sad smile. You nodded.

After a few minutes of walking in complete silence, you were trying to collect courage to ask him what the look was about. You pushed yourself mentally, letting the words roll over your tongue.

‘’Why did you look all.. disappointed when the teacher paired us up?’’ You asked, swallowing hard, afraid of his reply. But there was no turning back now. You saw him raise his eyebrows, looking at you confused. It turned into a shy smile.

‘’I… wasn’t disappointed, (y/n).’’ He said biting his lip.

‘’Then what? Disgusted?’’ You asked. He widened his eyes, fiercely shaking his head.

‘’No, no. I was nervous. The dance is quite intimate and well..’’ He said, trying to hide his blush.

‘’Well what?’’

‘’I kinda like you. So I was nervous. I was hoping you didn’t notice that look.’’ James chuckled a little, his voice lost in a whisper.

‘’You like me?’’ You asked him with a smile. He looked back into your eyes, smiling with them.

‘’Yes.’’

‘’Then don’t mind me saying that I like you too.’’ You said, feeling more confident now.

‘’I was hoping for that.’’ James said. Now you were both standing on the crossroads that always separated your ways. You stood there a little awkward.

‘’Wish your mom good luck for me.’’ You said, mentally kicking yourself for saying such a thing.

‘’Thanks, I will.’’

You smiled at each other, when James put one hand on your waist, pulling you in. He kissed your lips ever so lightly, making the world stop spinning for a second. You broke apart, and he tucked a strand of hair behind your ear, making you wish he wouldn’t feel the fire that was burning on your cheeks.

‘’Just to make sure that you know I feel something more for you than just friendship.’’ He said, smirking at you. You licked your lips and bit down.

‘’I’ll call you tonight, is that okay?’’ James asked. You nodded slowly, incapable of breathing.

‘’I’ll pick up.’’ You whispered as he waved goodbye, walking home.
