I'm Preggers

You were nervous.

No, you were more than that as you sat on the leather couch, your legs tucked underneath you as you stared at the test in your hands. You were pregnant. Yes, after months of trying, the test finally displayed a positive sign as you looked down at its obvious announcement.

You and James were going to be parents.

As the thought replayed inside your head and your stomach churned though, you couldn't help but allow a sense of fear to wash over you. What if he didn't want a child anymore? What if he gave up after so many failed attempts? Sweat began to bead on your forehead as you sunk deeper into the cushions, the small dog beside you lifting its head up in question as your body shook.

Your arms wrapped tightly around your fragile form as the small stick fell from your hands, tears forming behind your eyes as the silence weighed upon you heavily. You should have took the test with him. To have him be by your side during this moment and reassure you that everything was okay instead of having to wait hours for his return. You didn't want to go through this feeling for so long.

But as you thought this, you could see the look of happiness on James' face that would hopefully be present when you told him. You wanted it to be special. It needed to be. Wiping the few tears that escaped, your small sniffle seemed to push aside all your previous doubts as you worked forward on a newly developed plan. Grabbing your laptop that lay next to you, you concentrated on the good that could come out of this.

"Babe? I'm home." The darkness of the room brought the man's worries to rise, his leather jacket thrown onto a nearby chair as he took a cautious step forward, the sound of his shoes hitting the tile being the only thing that filled the unusual silence.

"In the kitchen!" Letting a relieved sigh escape past his lips, a smile broke across his complexion as he started his short journey to the lighted room, the scent of dinner already filling his senses with each step he took. Finally seeing your form standing before the counter, he couldn't seem to control himself as his arms wrapped around your waist, his head burrowing into the crook between your neck and shoulder as he placed a kiss on the sensitive skin.

"I'm home." You didn't know what to do. With your plan already in action and your nerves eating you alive, you could only manage a small laugh before pointing to the kitchen table, a manilla folder resting at the center.

"The boys dropped that off while you were on your way home. They said they forgot to give you these new lyrics at the studio." You had hoped that he would take the bait. That curiosity would get the best of him and he would reach for it as soon as you finished the explanation. But he remained behind you, the warmth of his body causing a blush to spread across your cheeks despite the numerous years you had been together.

"It can wait." No. This wasn't how it was supposed to go. Spinning around in his hold, your arms wound around his neck as you pouted, your lips connecting with his for a brief moment before you pulled away.

"Please sing it for me. You don't know how hard it was for me to resist taking a peek until you got home." Feeling the laugh that vibrated against your own skin, you knew you had won as you tried to hide the smirk that wanted to push its way onto your lips. Pulling away from you, his hand reached for the desired item as he opened it slowly, his hazel eyes scanning over the notes before anything else like always.

"Sing it out loud." Another laugh. You swore you could listen to the sound all day as he looked up for a second, your eyes meeting as he nodded.

I know this must be sudden.

I know this might seem strange.

But I can't hold it any longer.

Baby you're going to be dadd-"

He couldn't finish as the white paper fell from his hands, shocked eyes once more meeting your own as no words were shared between you two. As the silence continued, the doubts you had been pushing aside seemed to reappear as you nervously pushed a stray strand of (h/c) hair from your face.

"Is it true?"

"I just found out this morning." You didn't need to say anything else as his arms wrapped around you, lifting you in the air for a moment before his lips connected with your own. Setting you down, his hand cupped your cheek lightly as a smile stretched across his face, his eyes shining with an emotion you hadn't seen since your wedding day.

"I'm going to be a dad."

"You are. You'll be the most perfect father." Nothing could beat this moment as his lips continually met with yours, few words being spoken as all you both needed to say was displayed in your actions.
