Jealousy - Newt

I am finally back in the Glade after a day of running in the Maze, only a few minutes before the Doors close.

Yes, I'm a runner. I still don't get how I managed to do that, as the only girl and after only one week.

After reporting to the Map Room, I tell my friends Thomas and Minho that I'll see them later and start walking to Newt, who is already waiting for me.

"Hey, Newtie Cutie!" I say smiling from a few feet distance. But Newt, who is usually always happy to see me when I get back from running, has a strange expression on his face.

"Hi," he just says.

"Newt, what's up?"

"Y/N, we need to talk."

"Oh.. Okay.." He takes me to a quiet place at the edge of the woods.

"So, tell me?" I ask, trying to sound calm. But I'm not calm at all - I'm worried.

'I wanted to talk to you about.. About.. Y/N, do you still love me? Are you still in love with me?"

I'm surprized by this question. "Yes! Yes, of course! Newt, I love you with all my heart! Why would you doubt that?"

"Well.. Tommy and Minho-"

"They're my friends and running partners, okay? Don't you trust me?"

"Yeah, I do, but it's just.. You're spending so much time with them since you became a Runner-"

"Newt! Again, they're my running partners. And friends. Nothing else. We're looking for a way out of his stupid Maze with those horrible Griever things! Don't you understand?"

"Yeah, but.. You're mine!"

"Aww, is my Newtie jealous?" I smile.

"Because I love you, okay?! I don't wanna bloody lose you! To anybody!"

"Newt.. You won't lose me. I promise you, Minho and Thomas will never be more than friends to me. Newt.. My love, you have my heart - for all eternity. And if I'd die in that Maze.." I look at Newt for a moment. "...My last thought will be of your lips."

"Y/N.." he whispers.

"Slim it, Newtie. I wasn't finished yet," I say in a joking voice.

"Sorry. But.. Do you still love me? Are you still in love with me?"

"Newt, you mean the world to me. And even though our 'world' doesn't seem to be any bigger than this square piece of land, surrounded by a giant, ever-changing Maze with horrible creatures in it, that would kill us all if we didn't have these Doors.. And yeah, I happen to be in live with you. I love you, Newt. Only you."

It's quiet for a moment. Then Newt sighs. 

"What's wrong, Newt?" I ask.

"I'm sorry. I really am. I should've believed you- I'm so happy that you're here with me, Y/N. I don't deserve you."

I look at him, and see the tears forming in his eyes now. He immediately looks away.

"Newt- no. Don't say that. You do. Come on, look at me, please." 

He does what I said and looks straight into my eyes. I see his eyes, tears are now streaming down his face.

"Newt.." I whisper. "Come here." I wrap my arms around him, hugging him tight, but it only makes him cry harder, so I let go. I make him look at me again, his face in my hands, wiping away the tears on his cheeks.

"Y/N," he whispers. "I love you."

I smile before carefully pressing my lips against his for a few seconds.
