I look over at my sister who is sitting beside of Ryder. Calum, who has grabbed my hand, is attempting to work the walkie in his open hand.
Noticing our hands, I feel my sister tap me on the back. Luckily, no one else is watching when she attempts to ask me about Calum and I.
"What? I need details!!" She mouths when I nod yes to her.
"Later!" I add, my mouth ending up in an 'o' shape so I don't have to repeat myself.
"Wait!" I whisper, attracting the attention of everyone in the car.
"Tell you later Carter. There's more to the story then you guys probably know.." She finishes, talking out loud and leaving me with a million different theories swarming around my brain.
I glance at my brother who's vein is sticking out of his forehead. His bad temper is sure to get us all in trouble one of these days if he can't learn to control himself. I wonder about the trouble he'll get us into today. I also wonder why he's suddenly so angry when we are all fine.
I hear Alyssa and Alison chit chatting in the back of the truck and Alyssa telling her how she got shot and the details of everything that's happened since she's been gone.
"Sorry," I quickly apologize to Calum, suddenly extremely self conscious about grabbing his hand. My hand was probably sweaty anyways.
"I should be the one apologizing, my hand is sweaty!" He says, breaking the ice between us. At this point I know that it was my palm sweat, but I don't even care when he reaches for it again. My stomach does tiny butterfly flips at his sweet gesture.
"Uh guys, hate to break the lovely moment we all just shared but isn't that Sam?" He points to a truck behind us filled with people from the other camp.
Our attention is turned towards Sam who is sitting in the passenger seat with our current enemies.
"Recognize him, Ryder?" I ask, hoping that this is all a misunderstanding.
He shakes his head. "I would have known if they had a spy over here."
I nod, trying to muster up an explanation as to why the guy who is the head of our entire camp would betray us.
"They probably gave him an ultimatum. Join us or we'll kill you. I had to pretend to join them so they wouldn't kill you, Carter."
"Ali I would have done anything to have you back. Even if that means them killing me."
"Don't say that. They wouldn't just let you die, they make you suffer until you're begging for them to come back and end it."
"They know exactly where to put the knife and when to twist it." Ryder adds, twiddling with his thumbs and staring at the ground.
"Think we could go any faster so I don't, you know, bleed out?"
"We're stopping." Kyle says.
"Stay here." I direct at the three in the backseat. Alyssa nods and my sister rolls her eyes. I grab my gun and follow Cal and Kyle to the back of the truck. The large SUV behind us slams to a stop, flipping us off for disrupting their route back to the bunker.
Two by two, they jump out of the large vehicle and about six of them stand before us.
I glance at Sam, shifting my gun.
"What the hell are you doing Sam?" My brother fumes.
"He's part of us now." The guy from the woods, Chris, says smirking.
"Coward. You are a COWARD." Calum spits.
"You kids get out of here now. Don't come back." An older guy with red hair speaks from behind Chris and Sam.
I shake my head in disbelief, before I watch my idiotic brother start an unfinishable war. He lifts his gun, and as if in slow motion I scream at Alison to start the truck. Kyle fires his gun, hitting the man we tied up in the woods at point blank range. I watch the man fall to the ground, clutching his chest.
"Go!" I scream as we sprint to the truck.
We speed off as we are close to the main road, and I try the radio once more.
"Mom, Dad, someone. We need help! Answer please!" I leave it on just incase, but doubt that we will get an answer.
The radio crackles, giving us the sign that someone is attempting to respond.
"Baby girl is that you? We went to the meet up spot after they took Sam." My mom says.
I close my eyes. "We're on the way."
I get a sigh and a short '10-4' and leave the talkie on for later use.
We arrive at our destination a half an hour later. The smile on my parents faces as they lit up in excitement when they saw my sister was priceless. Everyone was hugging, talking. I was so glad we were going to be okay.
Sam's wife helped clean up Alyssa's wound, although she was very silent and short with everyone as she seemed to be holding back tears at Sam's betrayal.
After Alyssa, she was bandaging a few of my scratches when I decided I should say something.
"We.. We're gonna be okay, Wendy."
"Thanks sweetie, don't breath a word about this but I knew if something would happen, he'd save his own skin over me any day. The thing is, he didn't know this but I'm pregnant. Four months."
I raise my eyebrows and raise a finger to my lips, locking them with a 'key' and throwing it away. She smiles a little bit and I jump off of the tailgate of the truck to find Calum.
