As the portal closed Laa-Laa felt her vision go entirely black. The darkness of the portal felt draining.
She felt nauseated as if spinning around, though she couldn't tell, there was no light in the portal.
Light entered Laa-Laa's eyes, blinding her momentarily. She stumbled to her feet, waiting for her eyes to adjust.
When she finally could see again she took a deep breath, shocked.
"Guys," she breathed, "Look."
Their new surroundings contrasted Teletubbyland completely. Black sloping mountain ranges, littered with cliffs and scree fields.
The sky was a smoky red, no sun visible. That was the only plus side thought Laa-Laa.
The new land was dreadful but was better than getting their flesh burned off.
Laa-Laa took a deep breath and coughed a ragged cough. The air wasn't clean.
But Laa-Laa felt different here. Like she had had cotton in her ears and it had finally been removed, like she had had a veil of fog in her brain and it had finally cleared out.
"Where are we?" whimpered Po, now next to Laa-Laa.
"I don't know, but we have to make do," said Dipsy gruffly, "There's no way to go back to Teletubbyland. Even if the sun baby was gone, I don't know how to reopen that portal thing."
Laa-Laa felt a flutter in her stomach as Dipsy talked, remembering how heroic he had been back in Teletubbyland.
"What are we going to do?" voiced Tinky-Winky quietly.
"We'll walk, maybe try to find a place to camp, somewhere more hospitable," said Dipsy, pointing West, where the mountains were more level.
"Let's get going, does everybody have their special items?" asked Tinky-Winky scanning to make sure each had their scooter, ball, hat, and bag.
Laa-Laa hoisted herself to her aching feet. This had been the longest day of her life. And a long night was ahead.
