Laa-Laa's heart stopped and she felt Po's grip around her hand tighten. The teletubbies held their breath, not daring to move. It was pitch black inside the cave but Laa-Laa could imagine that the other teletubbie's expressions matched how she felt. They heard a muffled noise from the entrance of the cave. A sniffing. Nobody move, nobody make a sound, Laa-Laa thought desperately. There were several moments of silence and Laa-Laa began to relax, breathing regularly.
"I think whatever that was is-" Dipsy began to whisper when the cave entrance exploded, shattering the four with debris. A scream tore out of Laa-Laa as a jagged piece of stone sliced across her cheek. The teletubbies cowered in fear, huddling and crouching to avoid the shrapnel. A deafening roar erupted and Laa-Laa dared to look up.
A bear stood before them. Not just any bear though.
"Is that...?" Dipsy exclaimed, unbelieving.
"The brown fuzzy bear," Laa-Laa confirmed gravely. She remembered back to seeing the brown fuzzy bear for the first time in Teletubbyland. He had been running around and hiding behind trees. It hadn't harmed the teletubbies but they had kept a good distance away from it. This time the bear was different though... less two dimensional and more... Horrifying. The bear seemed to have taken on a more solid form. His jaw was unhinged at an odd angle and a bloodied, long tongue hung out of his mouth. His face and paws were stained crimson and Laa-Laa had a hunch it wasn't from grape juice. His eyes were no longer playful, now they were a solid white, no pupil and the unsettling eyes were fixated on the teletubbies, his next prey. Po let out a blood curdling scream next to her and Laa-Laa heard her heart pounding in her ears as the bear roared deafeningly and advanced on them.
The teletubbies backed up against the cave wall, putting as much distance between them and the monstrosity as possible.
"I'm the bear, I'm the bear and I'm coming," the bear rasped in a sing song voice, flexing his blade like claws.
Laa-Laa felt a whimper escape her lips. She didn't want to die. Not yet. Not like this. Horrifying images of those long claws tearing into her and her friends made Laa-Laa shudder.
Suddenly, Dipsy let out a yelp of surprise. "Guys there's a cave tunnel!"
Laa-Laa felt a small flame of hope ignite in her chest as she looked to where Dipsy was pointing. It was hard to see in the dark but there was a small hole in the wall. Could the teletubbies fit through it? It was their only chance.
"Hurry!" cried Dipsy urgently. The bear was advancing more quickly now, his glimmering, menacing teeth and claws only a few feet from them now.
Dipsy ushered Laa-Laa and Po through the hole, and then pulled himself inside, Tinky-Winky close behind him.
Tinky-Winky's face became gaunt as he was halfway inside the tunnel.
"I'm stuck!" he sobbed, tears streaming down his dirt stained face. His face was contorted in desperation as he fought to get inside. The largest teletubby had become trapped in the cave wall, bear on the other side.
Laa-Laa felt her stomach churn in fear. This couldn't be happening. Panicked, she grabbed Tinky-Winky's arms to help him into the tunnel.
"Come on! Help me!" she pleaded the other teletubbies, tears of desperation stinging her eyes. They also grabbed onto Tinky-Winky's arms, pulling with all the strength that remained in them.
All of a sudden, Tinky-Winky bellowed in pain. His eyes were wide with panic.
"The bear- h-he's got me," he choked out, face horrified.
Laa-Laa's throat constricted in fear as she heard the sound of ripping flesh and Tinky-Winky shrieked in pain.
No, no, no, no, no, this can't be happening, Laa-Laa repeated in her head.
"No!" Laa-Laa sobbed.
She couldn't just watch him die before her eyes.
She let out a guttural scream and tugged at Tinky-Winky's arms, an unnatural amount of strength in her, muscles pulled taut. With more sickening sounds, Tinky-Winky was ripped from the hole.
He fell gasping, to the cave floor, and Laa-Laa was overwhelmed by the stench of blood. The bear roared in frustration, too large to fit through the cave wall and Laa-Laa felt her muscles relax. She then remembered how the bear had broke through the stone wall and her terror was back.
"We have to keep moving!" she yelled over the sound of the bear. She turned to Tinky-Winky, "Can you walk?"
He was breathing heavily and was still sprawled out on the ground but he nodded weakly. Laa-Laa crouched to help him to his feet and supported him with her shoulder when he was finally able to stand.
"It's okay, it's going to be okay," she whispered to Tinky-Winky, not sure if she was trying to reassure him or herself. As she helped him begin to limp down the corridor of stone she felt the blood from his wound on her own leg. She couldn't see his wound but she could tell it was serious.
What if its fatal? What if he doesn't make it? she thought to herself.
No don't think that. It's going to be okay.
But the upbeat teletubby didn't know if she could convince herself that. She didn't know if things would ever be "okay" for the teletubbies again.A/N: I hope you enjoyed this longer chapter.
