The waterfall sends up a cool spray. Wet splashes cool my pale cheeks. I sit on the very edge of the chasm, on the edge of the cold metal bar, the only railing in the dauntless complex. The pit is dark and lonely almost peaceful. It's too quiet. Then I hear a loud voice behind me.

"Let's make things more exciting," the voice says, "Vic, I dare you to jump!"

"Sure. It'll be fun." I answer. I stare over the edge of the precipice. If I fell down the chasm I would die. Part of me tells me that this is stupid, that this is dangerous. The fact is a fall, a jump, from this height means death. Someone jumped off here before. I can imagine them tumbling down, down, down into their doom. It's illogical. A stupid idea.

The stronger part of me says go for it. I glance down into the deep pit of nothingness. A dark mouth waiting to swallow me whole. I take a deep breath and glance back at the person who suggested the dare. I smile and turn back to the chasm.

Then, I jump.
