Andrea
I cling to Tyler's hand for some unknown reason, maybe the fear of him being ripped away from me? I'm not sure. I've know him for years but not on a personal level.
"Where's your friend Joshua?" I suddenly speak up as we turn onto a street with a cute neighborhood occupying it. The houses all looked the same build just different colors
"I think he's with his girlfriend." He replies.
I nod my head even though ishe isn't facing me.
"Why do you ask?" He asks.
"Just wondering, you guys are usually together. Thought you would be hanging out." I reply.
We then walked into someone's yard, to the back where there is a forest. He keeps trekking forward almost dragging me along but obviously I go with it.
"Isn't this trespassing?" I whisper to him, darting my eyes around the yard in fear of being caught.
"This is my yard so it really shouldn't be." He says sarcastically looking back at me and giving me a goofy grin.
"Ha ha." I send him a playful glare.
And next thing I know we enter a forest. What the hell is up with this kid? Is he gonna murder me?
"Are you gonna kill me?" I ask suddenly.
"Why would I do that?"
"You're dragging me into a forest where nobody is around." I laugh like it's obvious.
"I'm showing you something." He shrugs.
We walk for a couple more moments before we reach a big tree.
I look at the tree questioningly, then over at Tyler who is just watching me intently.
"It's a tree." I comment, giving him a smile as if he's crazy. He raises his eyebrows.
"You gotta look up, Andrea." He says simply, looking up at the tree. Somehow he made his words sound deep and meaningful even though he literally just told me to look up.
My eyes follow his to the top of the tree where I see a small cabin like structure sitting between the thick branches.
I look up in awe at the structure. It was beautiful and looked like it was built really well with a lot of care and attention put into it.
"Me, my siblings and dad built this when I was 12." He explains. "It's my hideout. Wanna hangout in it? Or do you have any other plans in mind?" He asks softly, grinning at me like crazy.
"I'd love to hang out in there." I reply. He leads me to the other side of the tree where some pieces of wood are to climb to the top. He goes up first and I follow suit. We climb up high until he unlatches the door and pushed it open. He climbs up and holds a hand out for me to grab. He helps me up even though I don't need the assistance, I take it anyways, smiling at the gesture.
I sit on the floor and look around. There are a bunch of drawings on the walls, probably from his childhood. Tyler is leaning against a chest and I wonder what could be inside of it. Maybe some toy or games?
"Are you cold?" He asks randomly, again keeping constant eye contact, its almost piercing.
"Not too bad, why?" He turns around and open the chest pulling out some sleeping bags. He tosses one to me and grabs one for himself, unraveling it with ease. I follow his actions and slide my legs in, leaning on the wall behind me. I take my bag off my bag and shove it on the side.
"Why did you ask me to hangout today anyways?" I wonder, the question has been gnawing at my mind since the moment he tapped my shoulder on the side walk.
"You looked.. I don't know. Scared? Sort of lonely. I didn't have anything to do so I thought it was worth a shot." He trails.
I smile at him for a moment looking at his genuine expression. I didn't really know how to reply. He wanted to hangout with me?
"I saw at lunch you looked upset as well, and just when I was going to go see you, you got up and left." He trails on when I don't reply.
"It's just one of those days." I sigh, looking down at my hands.
"I was looking forward to going home, crawling into bed and not coming out. I surprised myself by even agreeing to hangout. I was just so done, but when you asked me I thought 'why the hell not?'"
I reach into my bag and pull out some snacks I didn't eat at our lunch period. I take my granola bar and snap it in half, giving him he other half.
"Thanks." He replies, taking a bite. We eat in silence, both of us not entirely knowing what to say. It's alright though, just being in his presence is alright with me.
I shivered in my spot, I actually realize now how cold it was outside. I hate being cold, I shiver so violently sometimes.
"Cold?" Tyler laughs, looking at my almost convulsing body.
"Slightly." I laugh afterwards.
"Come here." He suggests, moving over.
"Why do I feel like this?" I ask as I crawl over and lay down beside him in my own sleeping bad. I pull the dark green material up further, but I still feel the cold envelope me.
He gets against his elbow and reaches into the chest, pulling out a blanket. He lays it on the top portions of our bodies. I sigh out if content
"Feel like what?" He asks, laying back down.
"This! Why am I so close to you? I've felt like I've known you for years. I feel comfortable for once. Comfortable in my own skin." I sigh and stare at the roof of the treehouse.
"You need to answer that yourself." He says simply.
"Well I mean I wasn't really looking for an answer from you." I joke back.
He lets out a loud laugh. "You're quite the character Andrea." He says.
"You are too Tyler." I sigh, turning onto my left side, facing the direction opposite of Tyler.
I suddenly feel my beanie being tugged off of my head. I stifle a laugh.
"What are you doing?" I ask.
"Playing with your hair." He replies, beginning to try his best to braid my hair.
"I love all the different colors they suit you." He compliments, referring to the pink, blue, purple and green streaks at the middle/end of my naturally blonde hair. I smile to myself.
"Did you call me colorful?" I wonder.
"Maybe yes, maybe no." He says simply.
