"Hello." I said leaving out of the office for the fourth time in a row after 7 o'clock.
"You bailing on me tonight?" Reginald's raspy voice sounded off in my ear.
I smiled immediately. We have been hanging out for a few months now and he's amazing.
"I'm afraid so." I told him.
"I don't see why you can't just stay by me." He said straight to the point.
One thing about him that I am growing to understand and accept is that he is brutally honest and straight to the point.
"Because, I don't want to." I told him.
"Or you don't want to be tempted?" He asked.
"If you know the answer to a question why ask?"
"Because, I felt like hearing it come out of your mouth. It sounds sexier."
"You're so fresh." I laughed.
"You like it too." He said causing me to blush.
"Get to the point please. What's up?"
"Alright. I got something serious to tell you." He said.
"Oh really? What is it?" I asked noticing we haven't had many serious moments over the span of us talking.
"I want to tell you in person. I'm gonna come pick you up tomorrow. It's my day off."
"And my day on." I groaned.
"Really A'taya?" He asked
"Yes I'm sorry. You have to tell me this stuff ahead of time." I said sympathetically.
"This is ahead of time."
"I committed myself to working more." I explained.
"Yeah iight." He said giving me the infamous cold shoulder.
In response I sucked my teeth." Don't do that to me, you know I need to be paying for me a new car. "
"Yeah you got it A'taya. I'll talk to you later." He said and I sighed not understanding exactly what was wrong with him.
Men are sometimes so confusing. One moment they want an independent woman and then tell her she don't have to work and she doesn't have to sacrifice and then get mad? You want the best of both worlds and it doesn't go like that.
I got in the car and drove off thinking about how much better I will feel whenI am riding in my own car. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the fact that I have a car to get around in but I never want to be a burden. What of one of Reginald's cars breaks down or he just feels like driving this, and I'm at work. I'll be inconveniencing him and I hate that. I don't want to be someone over using my privilege.
I shook my head thinking about how he wouldn't understand. Reginald has a really bad temper sometimes, which is odd being that most times he is super quiet and secretive. He pays a lot of attention to deeper details.
We talk about God and although he still doesn't have an official stance on it, I can tell he is enjoying our private studies.
I made it home in no time, I yawned tired as all heck.
"I'm home!" I yelled out coming into the house.
"Oh hey kid." My sister said laying on the couch with Richard sitting up behind her.
"Hey, hey." I said speaking to them both. "Karen did you cook?" I asked.
"Yeah, no." She told me.
"Why not?" I groaned.
