< Chapter 77: Good And The Bad >

♥ Justin’s POV: ♥

“You are all visitors for Ms. Hughes?” a deep voice snapped me out of my sleep. I fumbled in my seat a little bit, opening my eyes and letting my vision settle in.

How long was I asleep for?

“Yes sir,” Ryan’s voice entered my ears. Realization dawned down on me and soon, I was awake and staring straight at the doctor.

“I’m Dr. Wilson,” he introduced himself, even though Ryan and I had met him before when I took Jamie to the hospital after she had fainted. Though I had a feeling he was directing it to Chaz, Noah and Phoebe (who had now also awakened) when he said that. “I’m guessing you all just want me to cut to the chase and tell you what you want to know about, which is Jamie, am I right?”

“Yes,” I automatically answered, and all eyes turned to look at me, my best friends giving me weird looks while Dr. Wilson just laughed.

“I thought so,” he smiled, making me feel a lot better about the situation. But then my heart dropped when his face turned serious. “It’s good news and bad news.”

“Oh joy,” Phoebe murmured sarcastically, but the doctor didn’t seem to hear her.

“And by that I mean that out of Jamie and the baby, one of them is okay while the other?… Not so much,” he said.

My heart sank even deeper.

“Bad news first?” I asked, the words choking out from my throat.

I saw Noah turn to look at me and sympathy flashed across his face. I closed my eyes for a few seconds, sucked in a deep breath and refocused on the doctor.

“Okay,” Dr. Wilson cleared his throat, “the bad news is that Jamie somehow fractured her ankle in the fall. It’s obviously not life threatening or anything, but the first few weeks out of the hospital might be a little tough. She was knocked out after the fall too, but you guys don’t have to worry about that. We already performed surgery and told her to rest up and she should be awake any minute now. Not too bad, eh?”

His eyes were on me now, and so were everyone else’s. I let out a small smile as I thought to myself there can only be more good news from here.

“I guess not,” I shrugged, grinning.

The doctor let out a chuckle before continuing. “As for the good news… You have yourself a tough little warrior in there, you know. That kid is something.”

I raised my eyebrows in confusion. “What do you mean?”

“We had a few concerns and tests to run but it turns out that the baby is okay. As far as we know, it’s still as healthy as it should be and we’re impressed. Jamie took quite a fall there,” he started off smiling, then frowned at the mention of the fall, then back to smiling.
