< Chapter 62: Night Surprise >
♥ Justin’s POV: ♥
“Promise me you won’t let her manipulate you,” Jamie said, fixing my shirt and planting a small kiss on my cheek.
“She can’t even if she tried. It’s you who I love, Jamie,” I reminded her for the billionth time.
“And I do trust you, you know,” she reminded me for the billionth time.
“I know, babe. You have nothing to worry about,” I reassure her, grabbing my keys, “And are you sure you don’t want to come?”
“I told you I trust you,” she frowned.
“Alright then, I’ll see you in a bit. Remember, if it’s past midnight and I’m nowhere to be found, call the cops,” I joked, causing her to giggle.
“Good luck,” she laughed, squeezing me into a surprisingly tight hug. I wrapped my arms around her body, hugging her back as she nuzzled her head at the crook of my neck. I leaned over and kissed the top of her head.
“I love you, princess,” I whispered, playing with her hair with one finger.
“I love you more, doofus,” her voice muffled into my shirt. She hesitantly released me and I stepped back towards the front door. “It’s a little cold outside. Do you have your jacket?”
I smiled lightly at her. “This sweater’s cozy enough,” I told her, and not much afterwards, I was out of the house.
My one objective for tonight is just to find out what the hell it is that Selena wants. I don’t know why I’m so nervous— maybe it’s because I’m going alone. I tried to persuade Jamie to come with me, but she refused, saying that Selena is expecting me to come alone. She said that if she was to come with me, she would hold me back from finding out what Selena truly wants.
Whatever that means.
I stepped out into the chilly air, wishing I had listened to Jamie when she reminded me about that jacket. I don’t know what the hell I was thinking, considering it’s fucking November, but in my defense, this sweater really is warm so I guess it makes up for it.
I found my car parked in front of Jamie’s house and quickly got in, eager to get away from the cold air. I’m sure Selena told me she was waiting at the coffee shop near the mall so it shouldn’t take too long to get there. It’s a little weird how it was at that very coffee shop that Selena and I used to have dates in when I had the down time.
I shook away those thoughts and focused on driving. Once the mall came into sight, I instantly spotted the small coffee shop and my breathing patterns became irregular.
Here goes nothing.
I stepped out of the car after finding a spot to park in and stuffed my hands into my pockets in an attempt to keep them warm. I walked slowly, approaching the cafe steadily and the minute I walked in, the familiar smell of coffee and baked goods hit my nose and I was struck with old memories of when Selena and I were still together. All those happy times we’ve had in here… those aren’t memories one can forget.
