< Chapter 57: Turning The Tables Around >
♥ Jamie’s POV: ♥
When my eyes opened and I found myself in some old, run down apartment, I instantly knew I was dreaming again. Whether it was a nightmare or not (like last time) I guess I’ll find out.
It’s weird because everything seems so real. But you know those dreams where it feels like it’s real life but you just know you’re dreaming? Well that’s the case right now.
“Jamie?” a very familiar voice called out to me. I stood up from the dusty floor and looked around the— rather small— apartment.
“Phoebe?” I asked, taking quick steps towards the front door. I opened it slowly and found Phoebe smiling at me sympathetically, holding a basket that seemed to be full of… food?
“Hey,” she said softly, stepping inside the messy, one-room apartment.
“Hi, what are you doing here?” I questioned, still confused about this dream.
“Bringing food, silly! You must be so hungry. Where’s the baby?” she asked, setting the basket down on a small, dusty table and looking for this ‘baby’ she mentioned.
Baby? Does she mean-…? I looked down at my belly and saw I was apparently no longer pregnant. Looks like in this dream, my child’s already been born.
“I, uhmm..” I began, and then she clapped her hands, finally spotting where the baby was sleeping.
“This kid should get some milk sometime soon,” she cooed at the baby, picking it up in her arms and rocking it from side to side. The baby’s face was covered in blankets, and I couldn’t even tell if it was a boy or a girl.
“Did you have any luck finding a job yet?” she asked quietly, looking up at me.
“W-What? A job?” I asked cluelessly.
“Jamie…” she sighed, “how in the world do you plan on raising your child without money? I can’t keep supplying you with food forever, and Ryan’s doing his best to pay rent for this apartment for you. It’s all you’ve got since you left Justin, and he moved on, honey. He’s not coming back. You need to move on too.”
My heart sank.
So this is what this dream is about? This is my life after the fight with Justin? I probably gave birth to our baby, and I’ve been raising it without a father. Oh… god…
“B-But what about my parents? Can’t I move in with them instead, and maybe still try for that job?” I asked hopefully.
Phoebe’s face fell and she gave me the most sad expression ever.
