My Happy Ending

Foreword

:::When they were young::: (flashback)

On a fine summer’s day two young girls about 8 or 9 enjoyed the first day of their vacation in relaxation. The taller of the two sat perched up a tree holding her camera as she took pictures of the various scenery that had laid out before them from the mountain with its majestic glory, to the crystal clear lake reflecting the hue of the sky. The other girl, donned in her summer dress and sitting on the grass, was about to finish reading a story to her friend.

“Seeing that Ariel really loves Eric, King Triton changes her into a human permanently. They had their marriage in a ship and sailed afterwards married happily. The end!” Jessica sighed happily and looked at her friend.

“Isn’t it cute Sooyoung? Someday I’ll meet my prince and we’ll live happily ever after!” the little girl swooned as she hugged her fairy tale book.

Sooyoung momentarily forgot her camera and looked at Jessica, “Happily ever after? That doesn’t exist Sica. It all just came from children’s books!”

“What are you talking about?! It does exist!”

“Does not!”

“Does too!”

“Not!”

“Does too! And I have a lot of fairy tales to prove it!” Jessica suddenly stood up in annoyance as her fantasies were on the brink of collapse at Sooyoung’s stubbornness.

“Tch. And you’re a stupid for believing it.”

“But what about Beauty and the Beast? They ended up together!”

“You read a false ending! Didn’t you know? The beast was just using Belle so that she could break the spell and after that he pursued half the girls in the kingdom.”

“I don’t believe you.” pouted little Jessica as she turned her back at Sooyoung.

“Suit yourself princess. The writer’s just scared the parents might sue him, that’s why he changed it.”

“But..but...what about sleeping beauty?!”

“They separated after a few years of marriage because of her bad breath. Apparently, sleeping for a hundred years can do wonders to one’s saliva.”

“What about Snow White??...”

“Hah! The prince had an affair with one of the seven dwarfs. He actually prefers midgets.”

“Cinderella?...” Jessica’s eyes were now filled with tears as she tried in vain to counter Sooyoung.

“The prince found out that she kept a legion of rats in the castle and threw her out.”

“Dummy!” Jessica threw the book at the laughing Sooyoung who quickly dodged it. Stomping her foot and crying openly at her defeat, Jessica quickly ran towards their house.

“Mommeeeee! Sooyoung’s bullying me!!!”

:::Present day:::

The sun’s rays gently peered through the velvet curtains as it subtly tried to wake the person sleeping soundly on a relatively large bed. After a few seconds of prodding, mr. sun finally had the blonde girl stirring from her slumber. Like a princess woken up by her prince, she slowly opened her eyes in momentary confusion and yet a smile slowly formed on her lips as she greeted the day with glee. Shining fondly at a job well done, mr. sun slowly continued to brighten the long winding road outside promising a wonderful weather. 

Looking at the window and sighing happily, Jessica stretched and gently shook the sleep from her refreshed limbs. “What a wonderful day for a wedding!”

*At a random hotel room

*RING RING RING!!!*

“Sooyoungie...I think that’s yours.” a muffled voice was heard as its owner snuggled to the one beside her.

A head with a clump of short messy hair suddenly emerged under the blankets as she sleepily grabbed her phone.

“What the hell Yoona... it’s only 10 am...”

“Sooyoung! Get your butt out of bed! The wedding’s today!”

“What wedding? You know I hate those things.” 

“Tell me Sooyoung, can you remember what your job exactly is?!”

Sooyoung eyes went wide as she suddenly remembered that she’s a photographer. "Oh that wedding..."

“Now kiss that fling of yours bye bye now and come here! The wedding’s gonna start in a few minutes!”

“Why didn’t you say so earlier!?” Sooyoung jumped out of bed and frantically looked for her clothes that were scattered across the floor.

“Sorry Hyoyeon I have to go! I’ll call you as soon as soon as I can.”

After a quick peck on the her lips, Sooyoung rushed outside pulling her pants up as she did so.

“It’s Hara! Aish...” the woman shouted after her. “Yeah...I doubt if she’ll call me anytime soon.”
