I was so caught up in my thoughts I missed my turn to go back home. Instead of turning around I kept driving. I pulled onto a dirt road that leads to a beautiful clearing. Its a cliff with hundreds of trees below it and a perfect view of sunsets. I go anytime I need to clear my head. Its really peaceful and calm. I parked my car a few feet away and made my way to the edge of the cliff. I was surprised to see someone was already there.
His back to me and he sat with his legs hanging off the cliff. I could see ear buds in his ears. He wore a baby blue T-shirt and dark blue jeans. Some of his dark brown curly hair tumbled out from under his Chicago bulls snapback. I debated turning around and just coming back later but decided there was enough room for two and if he didn't want to acknowledge me he didn't have to. I slowly walked over trying my best to not startle him. Scaring someone when they're sitting on the edge of a cliff is a really bad idea.
I sat down and scooted close to the edge mirroring his position with my feet dangling over the edge. Out of the corner of my eye I saw him look at me. I continued to look ahead at the red orange sky and pink clouds.
"Hey." He said taking his ear buds out. I silently cursed, I was hoping he would of chosen to ignore me.
"Hi." I said turning to look at him with a small smile. My heart skipped a few beats as I took in his appearance. He was gorgeous. He had dark brown hair and nicely tanned skin with a really nice jaw structure . His intense blue eyes stared into mine. He had such perfectly shaped lips that looked so soft and pink I couldn't help but imagine what they would feel like on mine. I felt bad for thinking about kissing another guy besides Josh but that guilt quickly faded as I recalled everything he had done. That was the past and this was now.
"So do you always come here?" He asked interrupting my thoughts and breaking the silence. His voice was deep and smooth and a small smile played on his lips. I found myself smiling like an idiot in return as I looked back at the sunset before responding.
"Just when ever I need to think, so yeah pretty often." I said. I could still feel him looking at me and it made me all giddy inside.
"This is my first time here. I just moved here actually. I was on my way home and got lost and then somehow ended up here and its pretty amazing so I decided why not stay and enjoy the views." He said with a smile.
"Views?" I asked with a small laugh.
"Don't you mean view since there's just one, the sunset." I said gesturing to the sky. He began to laugh as he explained.
"No I meant views. Its not everyday I get to meet a gorgeous girl and experience an amazing sunset." He said smoothly. I turned away and smiled a small smile. I could feel a blush coming on and didn't want him to see.
"That was a good one." I laughed looking at him again. I don't think he's looked away from me since I sat down.
"Thanks I'm a natural." He smirked.
"So can I ask what your name is?" He said still smiling. I looked down at my hands with a stupid grin. Why couldn't I stop smiling?
"I don't know. If I tell you my name that would ruin the fun." I said flirting back. His smile grew a little wider at my response.
"No I think it'd be more fun. If you tell me yours I'll tell you mine." He offered with a suggestive smirk.
"Okay but you have to guess." I giggled. He shrugged before agreeing.
"It starts with an E." I said meeting his gaze. He raised his eyebrows as he thought about it.
"Okay I think I got it. It wouldn't happen to be Emily would it?" He asked with a confident smile. It was if he already knew it was.
"Actually it is..how did you know." I asked with a questioning gaze. He began laughing uncontrollably.
"What's so funny." I said not being able to help but laugh along with him.
"I read it on your necklace." He said laughing again. I looked down at the necklace with my name written in cursive. I could feel a blush coming onto my face. I was so stupid. I wore this necklace literally everyday how could I not remember it had my name on it.
"Okay well that was stupid." I laughed knowing my face was completely red.
"No it wasnt." He said controlling his laughter.
"Okay my turn guess my name. It starts with a L." He said with a smirk. I smiled as I looked at him. I placed my hands on his head and closed my eyes.
"What are you doing?" he laughed.
"I'm reading your thoughts." I smiled. I could tell he was smiling even though my eyes were closed. I hummed for dramatic effect.
"Okay I think I've got it, your name is Larry!" I exclaimed removing my hands from his head and opening my eyes. I was way too excited. He just laughed as he shook his head.
"I'm sorry but guess again." He said with a smirk. I put my finger on my chin as I contemplated what his name really was.
"Is it..Leo?" I guessed. He laughed a little again before saying no.
"My names Luke." He laughed. I shook my head as I laughed with him. Luke was so simple how could I not of guessed that! I thought.
"Okay Luke, it was nice to meet you but I kinda have to go." I said with a sad smile. I was actually enjoying hanging out with Luke. He seemed like I really nice guy and made me forget about my problematic life.
"Well can I get your number and like text you later or something?" Luke asked looking like a little kid that might not get what they want. I gave him an uneasy glance to suggest that might not be a good idea. His smile fell and I bursted out laughing that he thought I was serious.
"You shouldn't toy with a guys' heart like that." He laughed after realizing I was just kidding. I gave him my number before saying goodbye and walking away. Before I made it to my car I got a text from an unknown number saying "hey hot stuff ;)" I laughed as I texted back a simple laughing face and saved the number as Luke. The whole drive home I couldn't help but feel happy. Yeah, just hours ago I was crying my eyes out over a boy who wasn't even worth it but now I've met Luke and the world seems full of possibilities.
