I had arrived home after the amazing night out with the guys, including Julia, and Ashton. Julia had claimed to beat us all in bumper cars. I'm not even sure how you can win at bumper cars but according to her she clearly won. My mum was sitting in her blue and white dotty robe with a mug of coffee in her hands at the table. Her face was expressionless. It was hard to tell what she was thinking, she hadn't really been productive in these past few weeks since dad left.

''Mum? Are you okay?..'' I was unsure if I should even had let those words slip from my mouth. Of course she isn't okay and maybe never will be truly okay ever again. She lost someone she loved with her everything. They may have always been away on business trips but before all that they were really in love. I think because of so many business trips, they didn't really have time to even be in love with the other. But those feelings all came back for my mother once he cheated on her and she found out.

''Yeah.. I'm fine sweetheart.'' Her voice was weak. I knew she was lying straight through her teeth. It was clear to anybody, a stranger could even tell. He's broke her.

''Do you need anything?'' I sat down in front of her but she just stared down at her mug that was probably now cold.

''No, thank you anyway.'' She was slowly killing herself. She hadn't properly eaten in days. She eats a slice of toast with a cup of tea every morning. That's about the most she'll eat. I've tried to convince her to eat, this isn't healthy.

''Do you want me to order take out and we can watch some chick flicks?'' She looked up at me and a small smile spread across her face. I smiled back at her, hoping this was her stepping up a little.

''Yeah, let's do that.'' She stood up leaving he coffee on the table. I made a mental note to throw it down the drain later. I put my arm round her, helping her to the main room where all our DVD's were.

Mum was much better, maybe she wasn't okay but right now she was laughing and smiling again. I haven't seen her like this in so long. It almost felt foreign but I was happy to see her nearly crying of laughter.

''How was your night out at the carnival with the 'crew' ?'' I laughed at her words, but continued to tell her all about it. I told her about how it was actually Ashton who invited us.

''Ashton? Is this a new boy Blaze?'' She smirked at me, making me laugh. No, I couldn't even think of Ashton in that way. He was nice and even good looking but I don't think of him in a way more than friends.

''No! No, no way! I couldn't think of him like that, I've only known him like two weeks. Well I've known him all through high school but actually friends with him for like two weeks. He's actually Michael's best friend..'' My mum knew all about Michael, how he had started taunting me and she was very angry and pissed about it, as I expected.

''He isn't like Michael, is he?''

''No, god no.''

''Good, I don't want my baby's boyfriend to be like that Michael boy.'' My eyes widened at her words even though I just explained to her that I didn't like Ashton in that way.

''Boyfriend? Mum, we're just friends.''

''You tell me that in about a month's time when you're already going out with each other.'' She winked at me and we went back to watching Mean Girls. Yes, I was watching Mean Girls with my mum.

Monday came even faster than I thought it would. Julia, as usual, picked me up and then we picked up Luke and Calum. We drove to school, then walked straight to our usual spot up on the grassy bank where our other friends were. As usual, Michael and his group were all smoking weed behind the school. He was laughing, which I didn't normally see him do. Usually he was all serious and the only time he laughed was when he made fun of someone or when someone was crying. It's probably something his friend said about somebody else.

''Blaze,'' Calum snapped me from my thoughts.

''Yeah, what?''

''The bell just went and you were somewhere else. What's going on in that little head of yours?''

''Nothing, I'm just tired that's all. Guess I zoned out for a bit.'' We walked to class, unfortunately my first class of the day was English. Today was the day Michael and I had to act out our scenario. I was dreading it. I knew it was only in front of the teacher but I'm nervous in case Michael messes this up for me, it is a big part of my grade for the end of the year.

I sat down in my normal seat beside Calum. We were allowed to have some free time while she called each group out to the hall to do their drama. Before I knew it, Michael and I were called out. I sighed loudly as Calum wished me luck and patted me on the back. We walked out of the classroom, performing our little drama.

To my surprise, I think Michael and I did pretty well. Considering Miss Chestnut clapped once we finished, I'd say we didn't do even close to as bad as I originally thought we would. We were the last group, as we went back in to the classroom I walked the way to my seat beside Calum. He immediately turned to me, asking how it went.

''We actually did pretty-'' I was cut off my the teacher walking in telling us she has our grades already, since she was grading us as we did it.

''Calum and Laurie, B!'' I grinned at Calum as he gave me a high five.

''Michael and Blaze, I am very surprised to say this.. A+! Congratulations, highest grade in the class!'' My eyes widened, as I looked over at Michael who couldn't stop the grin from forming on his mouth. He smiled at me, genuinely smiled, no evil smirk. A real smile from Michael Clifford.

''You got the highest grade in the class, with Michael as your partner! Wow!'' Calum was at loss for words, as was I.

It was after school and as usual, I took a power nap. School always managed to do the perfect job of tiring me out to the point where I'm struggling to keep my eyes open. I flopped in to my bed after changing in to pyjamas. I pulled the covers up to my chin, completely content.

That was, until my mum called me downstairs saying there was someone at the door for me. I yelled down saying to just bring them up. And that's exactly what they did. So since it was me, I expected it to only be Julia, Calum or Luke. So I curled back up in my bed, pulling the covers up to my chin yet again, but it was not any of my friends. Quite the opposite.

''Michael? Why are you here?''

''Well, I wanted to thank you.'' Excuse me?

''What? Did I hear that right? Michael Clifford, thanking me, Blaze Edwards. Why, is it opposite say or something?'' I was now sitting up fully on my bed.

''Shut up Blaze, I just wanted to thank you for helping me get a good grade on the drama thing. Now my mum will actually think I'm not a failure.'' He chuckled but I could sense a hint of seriousness there.

''You never answered my question before, Blaze. About your dad. He's not here today either, does he work a lot or something?'' He seemed genuinely interested and this was creeping me out. So I did the only thing I could think of that I knew how to do.

''Get out." I snapped at him. He raised his eyebrow, obviously confused.

"But-"

"Michael, I said, get out. Now." I pointed to the door, he nodded slowly and walked out the door. Once we closed the door behind him, I sighed loudly before flopping down on my bed.
