The pawns are the first to go.
Sacrificing themselves
For the king
And for the queen.
They are used as a distraction.
They are worth little to nothing.
But they are loyal.
They are grateful to lead the charge.
They are willing to die for their queen.
When opportunity strikes,
The rooks will assume their position.
Standing at the end, they are ready.
They see what they want
And they take it.
Their line of vision is precise.
They see things one way or the other.
They know what they want.
And when they know, they take.
But if you were taken first,
You were blind.
You were a fool.
The knights are proud.
They live to serve
And will die as they protect.
They serve the king with gladness
And they serve until the death.
They carry the king's burden
As they lead the battle to victory.
They jump around to wherever they please.
But one false move
And you are trapped.
You're to surrender.
You failed your king.
The bishops guard with cunning and wit.
As they come for you from the corner of your eye.
You won't see them.
You won't know when they will come.
They move gracefully
As they skim the width of the battle ground.
They look for fallen soldiers
And they take them away with ease.
The queen is the crown jewel.
She lives and reigns in every direction at any distance.
She's well guarded and hidden from exposure.
She's the delicate flower,
But she's your most violent and striking weapon.
She's strong and beautiful.
She stands tall besides her king.
She guards him his her life.
She'd rather lose herself than lose him.
She's the hero of the battle.
A fragile piece of glass she is not.
For she is a blazing sun that will turn the enemy to dust.
The king.
The king is the crown upon which the queen rules.
He's favorited, he's protected, he's vulnerable, he's weak.
For it is he that sheds a tear down his cheek.
He's the fragile piece of glass
That hides behind the walls.
He puts up his defenses until a tower shall fall.
For he is trapped in his own device,
Not allowed any space to go.
For if he tried to move a certain way,
He would never, ever get too far.
I am the king.
And you are the queen.
You were the one who always took reign.
You rule without problem
And are loved without hate.
For even though I am the one you all play for,
There's nothing about me to truly appreciate.
