We all jump at our nightmares
In the middle of the night.
We scream for mommy and daddy
When what we dream gives us a fright. We don't dangle limbs
Over the edge of the bed.
We have a fear of being dragged away,
So we keep our limbs up high.
For we don't want to wake up
And have our bodies be missing a part.We keep the closet closed
So no creatures can escape.
And every time we hear a noise
We call for help and cling onto a toy.
We don't want to be called crazy
When we see the looming shape in the dark
And all the others don't.We sleep with a light on
So we don't run into a beast in the halls.
We walk with caution
So we aren't the ones who take the fatal fall.We fear the nightmares.
We are scared of the wild animals under the bed.
We are terrified of the creatures in our closet.
And we sleep with a light to avoid the beast in the halls. But who are we supposed to fear?
Who are we supposed to run from?
The monsters under our beds and in our closets,
They aren't real.We should fear the monsters in our head.
The demons that are caged inside.
For when we try to outrun them,
There is truly nowhere to hide.
