6 YEARS LATER

From the table in the kitchen where I was on my laptop, I heard the front door open and a loud voice rang out into the house, yelling,

"Wife!! Children!! I have returned home from the studio!!"

I smirked when I heard two voices from the living room shout back in response, "Dad!!!" And then their running footsteps sounded out, heading for the entryway. I looked down at the little girl sitting in my lap who was waiting anxiously for Jimmy to appear from the hallway.

Liam and Aaron turned six on December 18th, which was about seven months ago now, in the middle of July. They're not identical, but they do resemble each other in some ways. They both look like Jimmy, but Aaron has dirty-blond hair like Jimmy had when he was younger, while Liam has very dark brown hair like I do. Both have blue eyes and they have pale skin, but really they could get that from either one of us. They're both taller than the average boy at their age. Liam followed in Jimmy's footsteps and took up drumming, and he absolutely loves it.

Aaron, however, is more into sports. When Liam started drumming more seriously last year, Aaron had thought that Jimmy was counting on him to do the same thing and was afraid to tell him that he wanted to go in a different direction. Aaron came to me one day when Jimmy was away at the studio and told me, and I told him that Jimmy wouldn't be upset with him and that he should tell Jimmy. Aaron was still afraid to say anything, so I told Jimmy after he came home what Aaron had told me, and after dinner that evening Jimmy sat down with him and explained to him that he didn't care what it was that Aaron wanted to do with his life as long as he was happy, and it was perfectly ok that he'd rather do sports than music. Jimmy made sure that Aaron knew that he wasn't disappointed in him and he wasn't upset with him in any way. So, Aaron does just about every sport they offer at his age level. Soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter, and baseball in the spring. He also does sports outside of school, like swimming and kid's cross country. He attends sports camps in the summer, which go for about a week each.

There's a saying that says boys will be boys, but when these boys are spawns of Jimmy, that saying has an entirely new meaning. They can be loud, disruptive, crazy, troublemakers, and stubborn, but you love them to death because they make up for it by using their big hearts to be incredibly sweet. This past school year, Liam got into trouble at school for disrupting class by talking out of turn, making jokes where they weren't needed, getting out of his seat without asking, and also backtalking the teacher. I got a call from the principal's office and was asked to come down to the school. After the meeting with the principal was over, Liam hugged me tightly and told me he was really sorry, giving me big puppy dog eyes and sheepish smile. Of course, there was no way I couldn't forgive him, so I told him I'd let it slide this time but the next time he'd be grounded. Aaron's done nearly the same exact thing to me before when he came home with a bad report from the bus driver, he felt so bad that even Jimmy couldn't really be upset with him.

Though they both get into trouble at school often, they're both very intelligent and have good grades. They're above the education level for their age in pretty much everything, so the school gives them more advanced things to do so they won't get bored, and they won't be held back from doing things more challenging.

Katelyn, who we call Katie for short, turned four on May 13th, and she's pretty much the mini version of me. If you looked at picture from when I was four, and then compared it with her school photos from this past school year, you'd know it without a doubt. She's got the long, wavy dark brown hair that I have, the same hazel eyes, the same facial looks. She even acts like me. She's very quiet and shy, she doesn't talk much unless she's really comfortable with who she's with, she loves to read and she's intelligent like her brothers, she loves music, food, and basketball. She does like to sing but she'd never admit to it, and she'll only do it when she's alone. I've caught her a couple times without her knowledge, and so has Jimmy. Jimmy's working to encourage her not to be so afraid of singing in front of other people like he did with me in what seems like a million years ago. She's come out of her shell a little, but she's still very shy about it. Liam and Aaron love their little sister, and they rarely ever fight with each other. Both of them protect her practically with their life. When she was learning to ride a bike without training wheels and she fell off the first time, she scraped her knee and the two of them immediately came running while Jimmy went to go get stuff to clean the cut out with and a bandage. They stayed there with her and got her to stop crying, making her laugh, and they distracted her from the stinging of the antiseptic. They remind me a lot of Matt and I when we were kids.
