The night sky always fascinated me.The darkness of it was something I welcomed with an open heart. To me, the night held the secrets of the day. There was definitely something alluring about night that I started liking the darker edges of life than the light ones. I wanted to explore the mystery surrounding the darkness so much that I myself ended up in one.
A lot of people only looked at the bright side of the night - the stars and the moon. The reason primarily being that it stood out against the dark backdrop. The glimmer of stars out-shined the glimmer of the dark night sky. Nobody cared to look at a night sky without stars because it was no longer captivating. But in actuality, the dark night sky without stars were more captivating than the stars ever were because darkness of the night were generous enough to let the stars shine. After all, stars cannot shine without darkness.
And that's the reason why I loved the night sky. In all due respect to my life, I was a dark night sky without stars. I was a bland, dull and boring person to the entire world. I faded in the background and I liked staying that way. I did not want to be the star that gets all the glossy attention in whichever ground it walked on.
Smiling wide at the night, I clutched my hands tights as a cold whiff of air whisked away the tendrils of my hair backwards. I was in my bedroom as usual doing my routine philosophical talks with myself.
Flynn had left to New York day before yesterday with promises thrown that he'd stay in touch with me and would pick me on any further developments in finding Genie. It was suffice to say that I terribly missed his presence and longed to have him back here. My family had grown fond of him and the cheeky idiot had won appraisal from every member of my family.
Like I said, Flynn was the star in my dark night sky.
I was shutting the windows making a thud when I suddenly heard a scream coming from the downstairs. My eyebrows furrowed in response and I quickly bolted out of my room sprinting down the stairs in hopes of rescuing the victim.
It was two in the morning. Sure, my heart was thumping as loud as the drum in fear. Adrenaline Rush was consuming me as a whole.
Once I reached the living room, the lights were turned off and I looked everywhere trying to find any evidence of a thief but to no avail.
"Who's there?" I asked mustering all my courage.
"Me!!" I heard a very familiar female voice squeak. I turned around to look for the culprit.
My eyes found nothing and I was gasping for breathe. Then, the lights started flickering back and forth further increasing my anxiety.
My mouth formed an 'o' as I found myself being a birthday girl. My family chorused a long and our very own version of 'Happy Birthday'.
Good Lord, it was my birthday.
The day I came to life and when my life began its disastrous sail. It's crazy to even think about my existence at this very instant celebrating it with my adoptive family. I didn't know how I was alive through the rough storm. I despised and still despise life. But the only good things in my life came when I went through the worst of times.
