It was decided that we were leaving to Alaska first thing in the morning.I was in my room stuffing my spare clothes into a duffel bag when Flynn barged in taking me by surprise. There was an undeniable lapse of silence between us—a childish, silly quarrel that we had to terminate before it goes any more uncomfortable.
My auburn hair was in a messy bun with tendrils cascading down my neck. I had an oversized baggy T-shirt on with my unmatched PJs. I looked and felt pathetic. Not everybody could be a goddess with plain Jane clothes.
"You done with tantrums?" Flynn's face shone with amusement which did not manage to go so well with my current mood.
I wasn't exactly angry at him. Okay maybe I was. Maybe it had something to do with a green monster called jealousy.
But I wasn't ever going to admit that to him. So I replied, "Yeah. The same time you were done with yours." I gave him a sideways glance.
He clearly did not expect my sassiness. His face had surprise and shock written all over it. He came close to where I was standing and said in a calm voice, "What is wrong with you? You are acting really strange. I know this isn't you."
I snapped my eyes at him. "I know I have been crabby lately. But this is the way I am dealing with my problems. I don't want to know what condition I would find Genie in. It kills me to know that it's all because of me."
He shook his head in disbelief. "You are still in self-blame? You are still thinking that these chaos are all because of you?"
I bit my inner cheeks and nodded. "Of course. It's all me. It doesn't change the truth."
"You are ridiculous, you know that. What the hell are you gaining with pointing fingers at yourself and dying of guilt?!" He chuckled mockingly.
I shut my closet and turned to face him. "I am scared. I know that she is alive out there. But what state she must have been in? Her mother is a sick woman and Genie had even once told us about how her mother had tried to kill her."
Flynn and I stood there gazing at each other allowing silence to wrap is around.
"I am sorry. For snapping and all." Flynn broke the spell of silence.
My eyebrows raised as I took in his apology. I pinched my lips together and closed my eyes for a second. "I am sorry, too." I barely recognized my own voice.
A sly smile broke out in his face. That was all it took for me to do the same. Soon, we laughed quietly trying to remove the awkwardness etched in the air.
"I missed you." He voiced his thoughts out loud staring deep into my orbs. His words bought a warm fire in my heart and my skin tingled in response. My smile could not get any wider.
I thrashed out of the ice queen façade I had donned around Flynn and without any second thoughts, fell right into his arms. My arms circled his waist making my head lay on his chest. My actions were utterly reflexive but it didn't matter to me. I could smell the scent of aftershave mixed with musk emanating off his chest. His embrace felt like coming home—the one filled with comfort and warmth. I missed this more than anything. I missed him.
