Chased [Completed]

The final battle

At first nobody moved. The battlefield was silent, you could hear the crickets sing. They just stood there silently, waiting for someone to move but nobody was going to - everyone knew that.

We were confused at why no one was moving but then I realised that they were both playing defence, waiting for one or the other to attack first. They'd using the same tactics which isn't going to work well.

"Well this is awkward" Briony whispers which makes a few of them look over to us. That's when the attack happens and when the blood began to spill.

Brody, had already got Drake up against a tree strangling him until he started turning blue; I put I hand over my mouth as Brody rips out Drake's heart and squeezes, making it burst and blood go everywhere.

I turn my head back to the main field to find the grass slowly turning blood red; there are more protectors but we don't really know them as well as the others do but it was still awful to seem them get killed. I couldn't even muster the courage to leave, something was compelling me to stay when I really didn't want to.

I could tell it was the same for Beth, Chloe and Briony. Chloe was cling onto Briony's arm hiding her face every time someone was killed, and the death counter was rising - rapidly.

All I could think about is when will this end. I don't what to do, my body is frozen in place until I break out of the trance and run in front of Brody stopping Niklaus killing him. Everybody stops fighting and stares at us shocked. "Elyshia get out of my way" Niklaus sneers through gritted teeth but I stay in my place, "move now Elyshia or the consequences will be fatal."

"I'm not letting you kill him" I reply seriously, "you are not killing him, you'll have to kill me first before you kill him and we all know you wouldn't go as far as to kill me."

That was a big mistake on my half. I find Niklaus' hand inside my chest holding my heart. I look up to him with a scared look and it looks like he sympathises but then covers it again. Brody starts laughing behind me but I couldn't move, fearing for my life.

"Go on, do it" Brody presses on, "Kill Elyshia and it'll be easier to kill me." Niklaus looks over to Brody but doesn't move his hand.

"All you have to do is squeeze and it'll burst right in your hand" Brody explains, I catch on to what he's doing, "one step closer to kill me."

Niklaus' eyes fog with emotions and in the end he lets go of my heart and brings his hand out of my chest. I take in a big breath and fall to the floor, holding my chest.

"See, you can't kill me" Brody laughs, "even if it means killing her first." I look up to Brody and see him looking down at me.

"That is enough!" Jayden yells running towards us, "Niklaus leave. I will deal with you later."

"As for the rest of you, I don't want to see your faces near our school again. For if I do find you here I won't hesitate to kill you" Jayden reminds pointing towards the Nova Brothers and they all walk away.

He bends down to me and checks my chest and no it's not wrong. He bites his wrist and presses it to my lips, making me drink his blood. "There, this will help you - it will heal your wound faster" Jayden says as he stands up and looks around.

I do the same and see the bodies lying everywhere - our friends are dead. Looking at what's left of them and who I can make out from the casualties; Haley, Mason, Drake, Dan, Casey, Elizabeth and Molly have died as well as the other protectors who fought.

Beth, Chloe, Briony, Jake, Jack, Joe, Brooke, Owen and George walk over to me and stare at the protectors who laid motionless - skin as white as clouds and expressions as fear for their lives. I just break down crying which sets Chloe, Beth and Briony off - I hear a few sniffles from the lads but I know they don't want to cry.

"Did anyone's blood partners die?" Owen asks wiping his nose quickly.

"I don't feel anything bad" Beth says looking up to him.

"Neither do I" Briony and Chloe say together.

"So they didn't die?" Jake questions, looking over to us.

"No, but most of our protectors did" I say pointing towards the dead bodies getting taken away by the school nurses.

I couldn't sleep that night, I don't think any of us could. I walk out of my dorm and find everyone sitting on the couches next to the fire. I plop myself next to Owen and place my head on his shoulder. "I feel empty" I say, "I don't know about you guys but I feel like a part of me has suddenly gone missing now that those protectors have died."

"I feel the same, it's like they were our family" Beth answers staring into the flames, "like they were our older siblings."

"Yeah like they were subtly teaching us how tough life can be" Brooke spoke up, "and I appreciate that cause now I know that life isn't just a game it's a gift and you should treasure it."

"Guys, I'm going to miss them" George says, his voice cracking which breaks my heart.

"We all are George and you know what we're going to do?" I say taking my head off Owen's shoulder (no I don't have any feelings for him, he's like a brother to me).

"What?" They say one after another.

"We're going to hold a funeral for them, even if it's just us lot or the whole school they will get the sending off they deserve" I answer them looking out of the window towards the moon, "the way they died was unjustified and they should have lived a lot longer than that. Yes, they were vampires but they could've had a family."

"We should really be grateful for the life we live" Owen says fiddling with his fingers, "they essentially died protecting us and the school."

"Yeah, their lives were wasted for us" Chloe answers, "The Nova Brothers wanted us they had the chance to get us but they didn't."

"That doesn't make sense though" I say tapping my chin.

"What doesn't?" Briony asks making everyone turn to me.

"If the Nova Brothers wanted us then they would have got us ages ago" I explain, "yet that battle was for revenge on the protectors."

"What are you getting at Elyshia?" Joe says looking confused.

"The Nova Brothers used us as part of their plan to get to the protectors" I say looking up from my lap, "they could have used anyone in the whole of England to get to them. Maybe they got to see the future due to a vampire power, don't believe me on this, saw that we were their next targets which would then make us go to the school in London which happened to have the Protectors there."

Everyone stares at me confused as I continue my explanation, "They then made it seem like we were their targets when all along it was the protectors, they just used us as bait to lure the protectors into their trap."

"It makes sense now" Jake says standing up.

I stand up as well as everyone looks up to us, "we were never their initial targets."

So there is the cliffhanger, I didn't want to make it a cliffhanger but it fit so perfectly with the chapter.

Anyway guys, it's sad to say this but there are only 3 chapters left of this book. Luckily there is a sequel to this book and I can't wait to show it to you guys.

I am aiming to get the second book out in January 2016 depending how well this book goes.
