(Sophie)

After about a five minute flight, we landed on the front steps of my house. Just as we arrived I heard Christian stiffen and then sigh.

“What?” I asked confused now.

He hesitated for a while and then said, “Nothing… I mean I should have expected you Body Powers to be so conspicuous...” he said this with a hint of prejudice in his voice.

I felt a thrill run through my spine now and my anger was flaring. I guessed he caught up with my emotion because he was staring at me with astonished eyes. “You don’t know us so can you stop making rushed assumptions… My family inherited wealth just like yours did. We have a cover to maintain. I know its hard for you Mind powers to care about things other than yourselves but I would like it if you were not completely rude in front of my parents now! Could you do that? For me?” the confidence and authority in my own words surprised both of us.

He stared at me now confused and for a split second I could read an emotion in his face that I could not understand. He was quicker than me though and composed himself. “Whatever you say princess.” he said this with a smirk now.

“Oh yes, about that. Never call me that again.” I tried to sound menacing and firm and apparently it worked because he was staring down at me nodding slightly.

I started towards the gates when they suddenly flew opened by my mother. I had never realized before, or maybe it was my newly enhanced sight, but now that I could focus in many things at a time I could see how beautiful she was. Her long brown wavy hair hung freely around her slightly oval shaped face and my same chocolate brown eyes where painted in her face showing surprise now.

“We have been expecting you,” mom said as serious as she could manage. I knew though she was just doing this just for the sake of the dramatic effect of the situation. She had watched too many vampire movies in her lifetime. With a low laugh she then led us towards the door I had passed many times before. “This way,” yup, she was really enjoying this.

The ten ancient rock steps, that merely decorated the entrance of the house I had lived in all my life, now seemed as foreign as the boy, or may I say man, standing next to me. I could see so clearly now that these were not just rocks. They held history in them, maybe even the sort of history I would never understand or live though. The bone white colored cal was perforated in ways only weapons could do. I tried not to focus on it for long because mom was now growing impatient in the door, all hint of laughter gone, but it just kept drawing me back in. The patterns of perforations in the rock, the places where the water from the last fifteen years, ,maybe more, has made them unique and beautiful.

I walked up the stairs and was then caught off guard, yet again, by the rainbow of colors that were oozing towards me from where my door used to stand. I had to look closely to realize that was my glass door that was now reflecting the white light from inside the house into the overflowing plethora of rainbow colors that was now crawled from each and every place where the light caressed the crystal paneled mahogany door.

I heard myself gasp for air and then release it slowly while everything kicked in. I was going to have to get used to the sight. It was so breathtaking.

“Beautiful isn’t it?” was all I heard my mom say as she urged us in one more time. “You will learn to control it. You dad still admires it sometimes.”She didn’t seem to be speaking to me directly so I am guessing, only guessing, Christian had the same reaction I had.

I moved forward and crossed through the rainbow gates of heaven toward my living room. Everything was so sharp, so new, so unknown, that it took a while for me to get used to the changes.
