Every family has a story, a past, and as of right now my past was looking quite exciting. A lot more than it should have been if you ask me. My story is about beings with special abilities who in one way or another don't really belong in this world. They shouldn't be allowed to exist in this world, but they do. Not only do we exist, but we are also used as weapons by specific governments.
When I was young my mother used to tell me the most interesting and adventurous bedtime stories. Because my parents are both spies, I saw nothing wrong with these stories. There was a sense of fantasy to them that no matter how scary the stories were, deep down, I knew they couldn't be true. They had to be lies. Things like that didn't happen in the real world.
Until I realized, they do.
And here I am now in R37, the real world as Mr. Silber had very kindly just pointed out. And what exactly is terrifying about R37? Everything. This office, sub level, is rumored to have the most valuable kept secrets in the world. The most important one being the location of every activate operative ever in the field, including my kind.
I know where I am, I just don't know why I was brought here? What gave me the clearance to be here at this moment. I looked around puzzled as we were still making our way through the silver mirrored hallways. The is a certain beauty to it. A certain perfection and peace that can be found in the calmer places. Actually, it was so calm it was scary. I could feel centuries worths of secrets running through this same mirrors, brushing my bare forearms causing goose bumps on my skin. An erie feeling.
Everything was very quiet until suddenly Mrs. Van Wellie stopped and turned towards a random mirror on the right wall of the hallway. She looked at me and with one command sent my head into a whole new depth of confusion. "State your name agent. Your full name."
Me? Why my name? I thought this was her office. I was confused at first but did as I was told, "Agent Sophie Marie Burns." As soon as the words were out of my mouth a screen popped up from the right side of the mirrored glass and a robotic voice I had grown to miss responded, "Please place your hand on the screen." Even thought this was Ike's voice, he sounded different. All sense of humor left. What else did I expected? He is just a computer, and even more now when he was working.
I did as I was told again and placed my hand on the screen. "Now place your eye in front of the retina reader." Where was this going to take us? Why was it only me doing all the work? and why in the world weren't we taking care of Christian right now?
"State your password." This command caught me off short. What password? I've never been down here before.. how would I know what the password is?
"Is something wrong agent?" Mrs. Van Wellie asked.
"I.. I don't know the password to this." I confessed politely. "What is this place anyway? How am I supposed to know this stuff?"
"This right here is your parents office and we need access to it." Mrs. Van Wellie chimed in a hint of impatience in her voice.
"Why do you need access to it? And why do you need me to do it?" This is so frustrating. Mrs. Van Wellie is getting on my last nerve. But wait...My parents office was in R37? I don't even know if I want to know anymore...
"You would be the only one who can get in there other than your parents due to the biometrics in the system." Mr. Silber explained further.
"Why do you need to get in there?" As much as I wanted to see my parent's office, I had a feeling it would be breaching their privacy, and the fact that they were trying to make me do it without even telling me why first was just suspicious.
