(Christian)

The next morning was interesting to say the least. She wanted nothing to do with me. I could’t blame her, she was ambushed with this information but I would have preferred for this to be a smoother transition.

“Hello Sophie,” I greeted when she walked down the stairs and into the massive kitchen. I had to give it to them, the Burns knew how to decorate their house with ostentatious things and still make it look simple. Even homie. The walls were painted a creamy yellow color and so the black kitchen cabinets made a beautiful colonial contrast. The light marble floors that cover the entire first floor of the house fit perfectly with the dark almost black blue mosaic kitchen top with white chips of shells that made it look like a starry sky. This most have costed them a fortune, not that they didn’t have the money, but I thought body powers were more snobby and flashy than this. I guess I was just raised to look at them that way.

“Christian.” she saluted cooly walking straight towards the fridge. Taking out a yogurt and granola she sat down in the opposite side of the table, as far away from me as she could. She was kind of beautiful now that I get to see her better. She is elegant and polite. Even now that she hates me, she still shows respect towards me and her parents.

“Sophie I’m Sor..” I started but she cut me off.

“Save it Christian,” hearing say my name did things to me, things I should have learned how to control by now but around her I lose all control. “I will move on with my life acting like none of this happened. The last few days never happened.” She said calmly reassuring herself and me. She wanted to make sure I understood what she meant.

“Sophie come on, how does that make any sense?” What was happening? Was I supposed to give her time to adjust? If she ignored this happened then she would never accept it. “This happened and is happening so you better get your head around it.”

“Christian,” she started calmly, “When I was in my room yesterday feeling miserable,” I make her feel miserable? Is it really that bad? Being married to me? “I realized something.” She continued calmly and politely. She must like me, at least a little. “No one can force me to marry you. Not you, not my ancestors, not even my parents, so now I can move on with my life and I so hope you do the same.”

I didn’t want to fight with her now. She would eventually realize this is not true. “If you say so. Your wishes are my command.”

I could see she was frustrated now. Maybe she expected a fight. Not from me... Not today. She stood up from the table and put her dishes in the sink. She tuned said goodbye and then she was off.

I want to go to school. It sucks being here stranded for the day but I had to wait until I was accepted and that would take days so here I was, almost at the end of the school year, having to take classes in the internet. This wasn’t ideal but it was what I got so...

“Good Morning Christian,” Sarah greeted as she joined me. “Is she gone?”

“Yeah, she just left.” I responded. “She is still pretty mad at us.” She really was and well maybe she had reason to.

“Yeah she will be for a while. Might want to get used to that.” She informed. “Do you want some breakfast?” I nodded. I didn’t have time to eat before. “Eggs and toast?” I nodded again. I loved that. She selected my order from a digital screen and the stove was working on it instantly.

“Thank you.” This house was like a person. It was true that both of our families are wealthy and influential but my parents were a lot more conservative than the Burns are. A lot more old school.

A couple of minutes later Sarah sat down next to me with my plate. “So how are your parents? Are they here with you? They can stay in the house if you would like. We have more than enough room.” She offered kindly.
