(Sophie)

“My favorite part of it all was when I learned how to fly.” My father said as we walked across the open field. “It is the most liberating one of them all. Even more than the running.”

I found that hard to believe. Running had been so exhilarating, it was hard to believe anything could get even remotely close to that. “I’m scared.”

“I was too. The first time I flew was scary for me but that goes away after you do it. It’s really not that bad. And well.. You are going to have it easier. I decided to make it fun for you and me.” I saw him pointing towards something I had completely missed.

Right in the middle of the open field there was a huge garage. I didn’t make much of it until now when I saw that the door was open. There was a small jet inside. Oh no, no.

“Calm down Sophie, it won’t be that bad. I promise. Trust me.” I trusted my dad so I swallowed my fear and nodded. We both walked together towards the jet and soon after we were off the ground.

“So how is this going to work?” I found courage to ask.

“I though you would never ask!” he said excited and turned towards me. “When we are right on top of the house again we will jump from the jet’s door and voila. It will work don’t worry, your body wouldn’t just let you die and if anything I’m here. I can fly.”

“I’m not worried.” I lied. “I just can’t wait to get this over with.” And that right there was the truth.

After about ten minutes it was time for us to jump. Holy shit we were really high. I couldn’t believe what I was about to do. This was just crazy. All of it. “I refuse to jump dad. This is fucking crazy. I’m not jumping.”

“Oh Sophie come on. Don’t be a party pooper.” My dad said with a huge grin in his face. Oh no. I know that face. He was moving towards me now.“No dad please you are going to kill me.”

“Oh honey never!” He answered as he carried me and threw me over his shoulder.

“Get me do...AHHH” I didn’t get to finish my sentence because now we were both free falling, my dad face first. Is he crazy? I can’t believe he did this. “DAD!” I yelled holding on to him as hard as I could.

“Honey let go. If not I will have to yank you off. Just please trust your powers and your body.” He was being unbelievable.

When I realized we were getting dangerously close to the ground I decided to give it a try. How hard could it be right? We were about to find out. I let go of my father and kept falling now by myself. “What do I do?” I yelled.

“Command your body to do it just like you did with the running.” He responded. That sounds easier than what it really is. We were still falling and I commanded myself to stand and stop but it was not working. I was too afraid. I couldn’t concentrate. We were now too close to the ground. “Dad it’s not working!” I yelled panicking. Oh god. The ground was getting closer and closer. I was going to die in a few seconds. Holy shit.

I can’t die! I won’t die. I concentrated now. I was not going to die like this. I still haven’t done anything with my life. My birthday was so close now. I had to survive this. Stop body. Stop falling. Shit it wasn’t working. Oh no, no, no. Please no! Stop please stop. I closed my eyes. I couldn’t take it. “Stoooop!” I yelled at the top of my lungs.

A few more seconds passed and nothing. Maybe I was already dead. I didn’t feel anything change though. I gave it a few more seconds to be sure and then opened my eyes. What the f.. I was flying or maybe floating but I had just stopped a few feet over the ground. I saved my own life. Thank you body. Thank god.

“You did it honey.” Dad congratulated me.

“I was about to die. You would have left me die.” I reprimanded him.

“Oh please Sophie, you know that is not true.” He gave me one of those stop-being-so-stupid looks that only parents can make look acceptable.

“Really, Do I?” I did know that. He would never put me in danger.

“Would I really let my only heir die? The heir to my powers? The salvation of my family?” He started dramatically, “Plus I was close to you during the whole fall and when we fly we go fast. Really fast! You will see that now. I was always there if it came down to that which it didn’t so stop with the drama.” My father knew me too well.

I could calm down now. This was kind of really cool. It felt even better than the running by far. It was liberating and empowering. I was flying!

“Yes you are flying so now let have some fun. Let’s start slow.” My dad started soaring over our house and so was I. Wow. This was so not what I expected it would feel like. I imagined it would feel like free falling but it doesn’t. It feels more like swimming than anything else, just less dense. We were slowly soaring over the trees and our surrounding and my face was that of an idiot. Grinning from ear to ear. This was fun.

“Okay now lets take it to the next level.” With my father it was all about taking it to next levels. Just like the add for Johnny Walker “Forever evolving and never standing still”. That should have been my dad’s motto.
