(Sophie)

Christian was officially getting on my nerves now. What was he trying to do? Make me hate him even more. I didn’t understand his game here. First he comes to school out of nowhere and now he is telling our family history to everyone. Doesn’t he understand we would not be accepted if everyone found out we were different? And now he has instigated Katy. We all know that when Katy gets curious about something, there is no stopping her until she finds the truth. She can’t find this one out though. I don’t think she can take it. It’s too many lies just like they all lied to me. She will hate me after she finds out. And well she will eventually I’m guessing. Maybe I should just tell her. I mean, what is the worst that could happen?

“Mom are you there?” I asked as I entered the study. This was the second time I’ve been in here since the day she told me the truth. Or at least what I hoped was all the truth.

“Yeah honey, What’s wrong” she asked as she read the concern in my face.

“I..” I started but couldn’t quite find the words.

“You want to tell Katy?” She got it straight on. Maybe it was her sixth sense.

“How did you ...?” It was hard to believe my mom didn’t have powers.

“Well honey I have lived long enough around your father to understand the struggles that come with being special. You are just like your father... plus Christian told me.” Omg. Can he just leave me and my family alone!

“Honey he is just trying to help.” She tried but I was tired of this.

“Mom he needs to learn to give me some space okay?” I was tired of everyone messing with me.

“He really cares Sophie. He is not doing this just because of the pact. He really cares for you now.” Mom is going to deep now. This wasn’t the way the conversation was supposed to go.

“How would you know?” I asked challenging.

“Because I see the way he acts around you, and the way he looks at you. Honey when you are in the room, I can see it in his eyes. You are the center of his universe.”

“So being my personal stalker is his way of showing this?” This could not be true. He has only known me for a few days. I know this happens in movies and romantic books and stories but this was neither. This was real life and in real life people didn’t just fall in love that quick...

“Honey you don’t know what he has been through... what he has lost. What if he just was protecting you or maybe he just doesn’t want to let you go just yet.” Fine. I would cut him some slack. Maybe my mom was right. I would be civil.

“Fine. I’ll be nicer to him. Maybe you are right.” Maybe this will make her change the subject. “He gave me the advice to tell Katy. Isn’t it a matter of national security though? If she knows? You told me when I was ten.. wasn’t that illegal too?” Maybe this is why they never told me before. Maybe there was a logical explanation to every time my mother lied to my. Maybe there is a reason for all lies except her last one. She had signed me over to marry him. That was not her choice to make.

“Being spies, we are never truly safe. The government lets us tell those closets to us. You,” she tapped my nose as she said it. “and your Uncle Ben are the only two people who know. That is about it. We are not telling you to tell her that we are spies although if she ask you can but make sure she keeps it to herself. You can tell as many people as we want about your powers. We usually don’t because they assume the worst but I’m really sure Katy will understand. She loves you baby. She won’t just give up on you.” I hope she was right. “Plus, do you really think she would let go of something so juicy as this? I don’t think so.” That last part was true. She would never miss an opportunity like this. She would be the first and only person to be exited about me having powers.
