30 Days with Genevieve

Chapter 8

Day 7:

I woke up at the sound of glass breaking. It sounded as if someone dropped something on the kitchen's floor, and I had to check if everything was okay.

I stretched my arms and legs and put my slippers on. Then, I walked downstairs to make sure everything was alright.

"Is everything okay?" I asked once I was on the first floor.

"Sean! Help me!" Emma exclaimed from the kitchen. I rushed to the kitchen and found her picking up the pieces of one of mom's special dishes. I sighed in relief and helped her to pick up every single piece of glass.

"Be careful next time, okay?" I told her. “You know how much mom loves her special dishes. She says food tastes yummier in them.”

"Yeah, I will. Thank you for the help," she said smiling. Her blue eyes stared at me gratefully, and I just shrugged.

"That's what brothers are for," I said smirking.

"You are a great brother, Sean," she said smiling. I smirked and was about to say something, but I kind of got tongue-tied. I was not nervous, I was just sad.

Unfortunately for me, my days were numbered, and I would not be able to see my little sister anymore. That little prodigy that was always teaching me new stuff, and that was always smiling and telling me I was a great brother would have to deal with my death. She would be devastated, and so would my parents, but that's the way things are supposed to be.

I had to die, and my family had to deal with it sooner or later. I would have preferred later, but I guess fate would not allow me to live for longer. I had twenty-three days left, and there was nothing I could do about it.

“Thanks, Emma. You are a wonderful sister,” I said.

“There is something I want to tell you,” she said in a soft tone of voice.

“What is it, Emma?” I asked.

“There is this boy I like, and he is… well, he is out of my league. But I really like him. His name is Landon, and he is really attractive. But that's not the main reason why I like him. I like him because he is really sweet, and he knows how to write poems and romantic stories. He is talented, funny, and everything I'm not,” she concluded.

I stared at her in disbelief. “Why is he out of your league? You are a wonderful girl, Emma. Never underestimate yourself. You are very talented!”

“I am not. I do not have talents, and that is extremely sad. Mindy, a girl from music class, has a beautiful voice. Scott, a boy from art class, knows how to make beautiful sculptures. Jennifer, one of my closer friends, is really awesome at sports. They all have great talents, and I wish I had one talent that would make you and my parents glad. But I don't. I am just a useless and worthless little girl,” she said sadly.

“No, you are not! You are one of the smartest girls I know. You know the periodic table by heart, and you read books that are for tenth graders. You are very intelligent, and if Landon does not realize it then he is not worth it,” I said. Emma smiled and gave me a hug.

“Thank you, Sean,” she said. Little tears streamed down my face as my little sister hugged me tightly. I was going to miss her, and the worst part is she was going to miss me, too.

“I passed! I freaking passed!” I exclaimed happily as I saw my grade. I was currently at Chemistry class, sitting next to Genevieve.
