30 Days with Genevieve
Chapter 16
Day 15:
I heard a couple of footsteps and opened my eyes as I saw who was walking into my room. I smirked and shook my head. "Where were you?" I asked.
Peter, who was now standing in front of me, gave me an innocent smile and shrugged. "Julia's parents told me I could stay at the house because the dinner finished really late."
"You were just supposed to take her home," I reminded him.
"I know, but they insisted. Her mother says I'm the first guy she has ever seen with Julia, and she was very excited," Peter said.
"Really?" I asked.
"Yes," he said shyly.
I smirked and shook my head. "Looks like someone is getting over Genevieve quickly."
"We are just friends," Peter muttered.
"I know," I said. "But soon you won't."
Peter ignored my comment and sat at my bed. "How were things with Genevieve yesterday?"
"Awkward," I said.
"You only have fifteen days left," he reminded me.
"I know," I said sadly. "I am going to do it."
"I know you will," he said smiling.
"Remember you promised me you would tell me anything about her if I took you to the party?" I asked out of the blue.
"Sure," he said. "Do you still want to know what her father did?"
"No," I said. "I already know."
"Really?" he asked surprised.
"Yes," I replied. "What I want to know --and I want you to be completely honest on this one-- is why it is that her father will not let her be a doctor."
"Well," Peter said. "Genevieve's grandfather is a lawyer, and her father is also one. That's why they all want her to become a successful attorney."
"Why would her grandfather care? He does not even care about her!"
"I know," Peter said. "But he has money, and he helps Genevieve's father financially. Malcolm, Genevieve's father, does not work as an attorney anymore, so he does not make money."
"Are you telling me that if Genevieve does not turn into a lawyer, her grandfather will stop giving her dad money?" I asked confused.
Peter nodded. "I'm afraid that's what I am trying to say."
"That's terrible!" I exclaimed. "I got to do something about it!"
"Unfortunately," Peter said. "There's nothing you can do about it. Should I remind you your days are numbered?"
"Shut up!" I exclaimed annoyed. "Stop telling me what I already know, Peter! I am going to do something about it! I have to!"
"No, you don't have to," he said. "You want to."
"I--I just want to help her," I said frustrated.
"Just focus on making her happy for these fifteen days, Sean. There are some things that you just cannot change."
"But I can change her grandfather's mind! Or I could change her father's mind! I could.... I could do many things! She deserves to be happy!"
"Sean," Peter said. "Just drop it. There is nothing you can do about it."
