Today, Thursday, I set up the radio as usual and programmed it to my mind. I've become an expert at this stuff. I've even got to answering questions while listening to the radio!
As usual, everyone has brought their purses, and they have their costumes in them.
All we've got to do now is wait for a crime to come up.
I walk to first period (Social Studies. 😣) with Reece and Tempest, endure the dreadful boringness, and then go to Science.
Mr. Ross is trying to get me to do a re-run of EhdqA, but I really don't want to. Another mess-up could mean:
1 - I lose my powers
2 - It does some other physical damage that is much worse.
Anyway, now that I'm a full-time superhero to-be, I won't have a lot of time to do my homework, much less finding a whole other formula for a healing serum on top of that.
So, making EhdqA again?
Not exactly on my bucket list.
I've tried telling Mr. Ross this, but I can't seem to find another reason besides "It's going to hurt me." That's a risk that all scientists have to take. If I say that, I'll look like a pure idiot.
And I can't tell him I have superpowers. If I say that, then Mr. Ross will laugh in my face and I'll look like even more of an idiot.
So, Plans A and B aren't a go.
So, I've just decided to tell him Plan C: I just really, really don't want to do it.
Not the best idea.
I went up to Mr. Ross, told him I didn't want to redo EhdqA, and he looked very upset. Like, sad puppy upset. It made me feel very guilty, so guilty that Reece and Tempest even asked me what was wrong once I went back to my seat.
I wish I had a Plan D.
But I don't, so I'll have to deal with it.
Science ends, and we're off to art. Reece, Tempest, and I walk in, say hi to Ms. Farell, put our books down, and sit at our table. Soon, the rest of the class trickles in, and the lesson starts. While everyone is listening intently to Ms. Farell teaching them how to draw a shoe, I'm telepathically listening in on the radio in my purse, which I can also see thanks to my x-ray vision. So far, it's nothing, just a bunch of static.
This is what it's been like since we started this plan. It's really boring, hearing constant static every single day. And annoying. Even though being the superhero with all the powers has lots of downsides, it has its upsides, too.
Like being the leader of the team, and being an inspiration to them.
And, of course, having AWESOME POWERS!!!!
I smile and continue listening to the radio. Then, for the first time in weeks, a voice comes out of the device.
"Code 31, Code 31," A man's voice crackles."Male, doesn't look to be armed. Robbed multiple banks in a few minutes. On his way down West 27th Avenue."
"How did he rob multiple banks in a few minutes? That's impossible-" says another puzzled voice, but the first man cuts him off.
"I don't know, but you should know to get over here! Quick!"
Then, static.
I hold in my gasp and quickly send a message to Reece and Tempest's minds. "There's a crime in Denver. Hurry!"
Immediately, Tempest and Reece whip around to look at me. I nod, and raise my hand.
"Ms. Farell, may I please go to the bathroom? It's an emergency." I say, bouncing up and down in my seat for good measure.
"All right, Aurora." says Ms. Farell. I get up and walk out the door, then break into a speedwalk down the hall to the bathroom, where I send telepathic messages to Isabella, Flora, and Fauna. 5 minutes later, everyone is in the bathroom.
"Hi, guys. There's been a bank robbery in Denver. But it's not ordinary. This guy robbed multiple banks in a matter of minutes." I say.
"What? But that's impossible!" Isabella says, perplexed. I look at her pointedly.
"Most people would think that it's impossible that we have powers, and we do, right?" I say.
"So, you think this guy has powers?" Reece asks, smacking her fist into her hand.
"Yep. And if he does, no one can stop him but us." I reply, and walk to Flora.
"I'm going to make clones of you guys, all right?" I say, and place my hand on Flora's head, closing my eyes. Immediately, I think of two Floras. Then, I open my eyes, and there are 2 Floras standing in front of me! Flora screams, and we have to calm her down, since somebody might hear her. Then, I do the same to everyone else and then, finally, me.
Then, we order our clones to stay put while we change into our costumes. Once we're changed, we prepare our doppelgangers for their journey out into the school. We teach them what our names are, what classrooms we were in, where we were, and to say they were sorry they took so long. Then, we gave them our schedules and they were off.
"Wait! Reece Number 2! One more thing!" Reece says right before her copy walks out the door, handing her a box of pencils. "Here. Show this to Ms. Farell. Say, 'I found it!' when she sees you. Okay? Then, put it into the box where all the other pencils are."
"Sure thing, Reece Number 1!" the clone says enthusiastically as she takes the box of pencils and walks out the door.
"Instead of needing to go to the bathroom, I asked Ms. Farell if I could go to my locker to get the pencils I owe her. You know, since it would be suspicious if all of us went to the bathroom at once?" Reece says, turning back to us.
"Good thinking, Reece," I say. "All right, guys. Isabella, can you turn us invisible now?"
"Sure thing, Aurora!" says Isabella, and she wisps out of sight. Then, I feel a soft touch on my arm, a tingle through my body, and I knew that I was invisible. Sure enough, I raised my hand, and couldn't see it in broad daylight. Soon, no one was able to be seen, and we snuck out of the school.
Once we were outside, I summon the power of teleportation and think of West 27th Street, Denver, Colorado. Everyone grabs my arm, and I think, "Go."
A flash of light, a jolt, and I look up.
Skyscrapers and a street sign that reads, "West 27th St."
Perfect.
