Chapter 34: Finding Him

"All right, guys," I say, trying to get a pep talk going. "This is our first time fighting crime. So, expect some mistake to happen. What's the worst that could happen to us if we make a tiny error? I mean, it's only a bank robber." Everyone just looks at me blankly, and I can tell they're still really nervous. This isn't working. I sigh. "What I'm trying to say is, don't get rattled if you make a mistake, because, if you think about it, everyone makes them. Hey, I even got my powers because of a science experiment gone wrong!" I chuckle at my little joke, but no one else does. Wow. They must be really nervous.

"Who's leading the chant?" Reece says weakly.

"I will," says Fauna, who looks like she's trying to be as enthusiastic as she can. "1, 2, 3..."

"The Extraordinaires!" we all yell, and take in our surroundings.

Skyscrapers are everywhere, and I can hear faint sirens in the distance. We're in the middle of the street, and I suddenly feel ridiculous in my costume.

I try to spot anything suspicious, but I don't find anything until I hear police sirens.

"That way!" I yell, pointing in the direction I heard the sirens from. We race to the crime scene, and when we get there, I spy a man running down the street and turning into an alleyway. Immediately, I run down the alley, look it up and down, and stop.

There's nobody here. The guy disappeared.

All right, so he's probably got some teleportation. We can out run him, right? No big deal.

The rest of the team catches up with me, and they're already a little wheezy.

Ok. If the thief has teleportation, it's a big deal.

I try not to panic and clear my mind. If I'm panicked and my mind isn't clear, then I can't think, and then we've got a real problem.

Slowly, I try to think of a way to find the crook. Finally, I get an idea.

I use my X-ray vision and supersight to zoom in on all the nearest banks. I find one, already surrounded by police cars. Nope, I move on. Found another, same thing. After a few tries, I find a bank that hasn't been robbed. Bingo! If this guy has been on the run to bank after bank, why won't he just rob another one? Quickly, I tell everyone to grab hold of me, and I think of the bank I envisioned.

We arrive at the scene just in time to see a man in all black sneak into the doors of the bank.

Gotcha!
