As I walk in the doors to science, I put my thinking cap on. This is your favorite subject, I say to myself. You need to focus.

So, I'm all focused up and ready at my desk when Mr. Ross comes up to me.

"How's that healing serum coming along?" He asks.

I silently reply by handing him my sheet of paper, grinning.

Mr. Ross is probably the best guy in the world. And the competition includes my father.

Mr. Ross glances at the sheet for a few minutes, then looks up at me, clearly amazed and proud.

"Well, Aurora, this is fabulous! I've never seen a more accurate equation. Nice work! Tomorrow morning, let's work on finding the ingredients! How does that sound?" he says.

"Awesome!" I reply.

YES! And you thought you would fail, I say to myself.

Wait. Let me correct that. Clarissa thought I would fail.

Clarissa is one of the meanest people I have ever met. She's sneaky, nasty, popular, and pretends to be an innocent, nice little girl that never gets in trouble.

I, for one, see right through her. I even said so when I was a stupid 6th grader, all bold and ready to fight whatever came my way. That was before mom died. She encouraged me to face my fears and never back down. But once she passed away, those qualities trickled away.

Anyway, a couple of days ago, Clarissa heard Mr Ross and I talking about my healing serum. (Of course, the school put me in the same classes with her. AGAIN.) When we were in the hall, where there were no adults (did I mention she's kind of cowardly like that?) she told me I would never pull that off.

I tried to protect myself, but all that came out was, "Well, Mr Ross believes in me." in the smallest voice I've ever used.

She then mocked me, laughed in my face, and trotted away to catch up with her friends.

Ugh. I hate that girl, and I usually am not the type to hate anybody.

Anyway, I've proved her wrong! I really can pull this off!

So, as Mr. Ross starts his lesson, I'm daydreaming about what my healing serum will do for society. Who knows? Maybe at one point it will cure cancer! Then I can help people just like my mom get better. I really hope this works. I really, really do.
