Chapter 32: Not All Surprises Are Good

*Peeta POV*

"Gale?" I breathe out. He sends me a glare. "Why would you do this?" He wipes some blood dripping down his forehead. "You stole her from me. The only person who made me happy. She chose you over me." He punches my stomach and I groan in pain. I whimper. Gale bends over to retrieve his gun but I kick his face instead. He falls onto the floor.

"Shit aughh!!" He yells.
"That's for choking me," I kick his stomach with all my strength and he blacks out. "And that's for kidnapping Katniss." I leave him and head out the door to see that police cars start to arrive.

They grab Delly and the men and put them in their police cars. "You will pay for this Peeta and one day you will be mine!!" She yells out to me. I scoff and run back inside.

"Peeta!" I turn around to see Finnick at a doorway.
"Finnick where the he-"
"I found her." I stop in my tracks. "She's over here." He leads me over to a room with nothing but a metal door. I stop and almost choke on a sob. There's blood all over the floor. A bat lies in the corner and so does a taser. My eyes lead up to her. She's stiff as a rock. Bags are under her eyes and there's no longer the light pink color in her cheeks or her lips. Her clothes are torn and dirty. Her hair is a mess but she's still Katniss.

Finnick tries shaking her to get her attention to us and she does. "Finnick?" She barely whispers. Her voice is so raspy that you can barely hear it. "Yes it's me, don't worry you're safe now Kitty." Her eyes land on me. Her eyes open wide open and she starts to scream and shake.

"Get away from here you mutt!! GO AWAY!" She screams and cries loudly as she tries to crawl into a corner. My mouth drops open. Finnick tries to calm her down but she just screams more when he tries to touch her. Delly must have did something to her to make her think I'm a mutt. She left a surprise for us but we didn't ask for it.

We are currently in the hospital. The doctors have told us that Katniss had scars and bruises all over her body. That's all they told us about her but I still want to know why she hates me so much and is horrified of the thought of me.

"Family of Katniss Everdeen?" Finnick and I stand up. I speak up. "Yes we're her friends, very close friends."
"I'm sorry sir but I need to speak with Katniss' family first."
"Please just-"
"I'm sorry but I cannot share any information with you if you're not family." I run my hands through my hair.

"Okay listen, my girlfriend is in that room over there. She was kidnapped and tortured from head to toe, I love her with all my heart and it should've been me who got kidnapped. She never deserved this so please I really need to see her right now. Call the doctor he knows me personally and I can talk to him just please give me a chance." She stares at me for a while. She sighs.
"Well I guess I can call the doctor to see what he thinks." After that she rushes off. I sigh. Finnick pats my back.
"Its okay, you're going to see her." He smiles just slightly.
"I hope so." A few moments later the doctor, who is my dad's close friend, approaches us.

"Hello Peeta." He says with a smile.
"Hi-uh can we see Katniss?" He looks at his clipboard for a bit then looks back at me.
"Hm I think we can arrange that." I release the breath I didn't know I was holding.
"Oh thank you so much."
"But I have some news on Katniss too. We found out that Katniss has been injected with tracker jacker venom and got hijacked. The kidnappers used the venom to make it look like you are the bad guy Peeta. We don't know when her real memories will come back so she might need some family members, maybe some close friends, to help trigger some memories back. She might also have some hallucinations due to the venom."

My eyes are full of tears but I don't release them. Finnick holds my hand and I can see that he has a worried look on his face.

"Thank you." Finnick responds.
"We can try to see how she will react when Peeta is in the room first, we'll be outside just in case." The doctor says.

He leads us to Katniss' room and I open the door a bit. I see her looking outside the window next to her bed. Her hands are tied to the bed and so are her feet. Once she hears the door close, she looks my way. Her eyes are red and puffy. Her hair is all over her face full of tears but I can still see the glare she has on her face.

"W-what the hell are you doing here." She says coldly but still shaking in fear. I gulp.
"I just wanted to see you." She doesn't say anything."Katniss don't believe anything Delly told you. All those things she told you about me are lies, nothing but made up."
"How am I supposed to believe you? Or anyone?" She looks at her hands. Tears flow down her face.
"Because I know you more than anyone does, your family will help, I will help no matter what it takes."

"I must have loved you a lot." She says after a while.
"You did." My voice catches and I pretend to cough.
"And did you love me?" She asks.
I keep my eyes connected to hers. "I did, everyone said I did. I guess that's why Delly tortured you. To break me." Katniss shakes her head.

"I still don't know what to believe." She mumbles. I take her hand in mine. I instantly feel sparks and she looks down at her hand in shock.

"W-what was that? I felt something." She looks worried. Even after all the torture she's been through, she still feels the sparks I feel every time I'm with her.
"Don't worry, I feel it too." Her head slightly nods and she sighs. "I wanna be alone right now." She says. She starts to shake a little and puts her head in between her knees. I take a deep breath and stand up. As I'm about to walk out the door I whisper to Katniss. "Goodbye Katniss."

I shut the door behind me and Finnick and the doctor call out for me. I ignore them and just walk out the hospital and drive home without a word said.
