I Remember You

Depression - Chapter 9

How can Hongki do this to her?  She doesnt want to believe him but the bomb that he carried exploded in her face. Shes never felt so betrayed in her whole life.

Listlessly she walk inside her room. She would look outside her window from time to time, her unseeing eyes wanting to see something familiar. 

" Please tell me you're lying " She told Hongki after he confessed to her at the park. " You're just making this all up because your jealous...huh? Come on Hongki please..." Tears fell on her face and Hongki wipes them away with his fingers. He didnt answer her but his expression is enough to drive the truthfulness of what he said to her.

" No! " She wailed and she drop to her knees in front of him . He has been her anchor for a long time. She knew and felt that what we shared was real. Then why did he hurt her so?

" Im really sorry.." He repeated over and over again. Vaguely she felt someone assisting her to get up. She saw Hongki's face harden before it softened in defeat  She doesnt have the energy to hold on to him as he look at her with sadness. Her heart broke into pieces as he turn around and walk away. 

Leaving her forever.

Someone carried her bridal style to a waiting car and she felt  safe as the warmth of the person carrying her enveloped her. She buried her face into his chest and cried . 

" What happened?" Her mom's agitated voice cut through her jumbled thoughts.

She didnt hear his response. He carried her to her room and left for a short time. Her eyes are closed but shes aware of everything around her. She felt the cool cloth  as it traverse her puffy face and eyes. 

" Go to sleep baby.." She heard him say softly and then he kissed her temple.

She thought she will be able to  sleep but a few hours has passed since then, she cant. She opened her eyes and saw how bleak the day look. Its just mid morning as evidenced by the clock on her bedside table. Outside her room she can hear a quiet buzzed of activity. Her mom is talking to someone and though they talk in hushed tones she can still hear them.

Her thoughts lead her to Hongki and his revelation.

" You were in an accident Lianee. A month ago, we were walking outside the gym and you kept on saying that you were excited to go home. " Hongki said with a bit of fear in his eyes. He took a deep breath before he continue, " I was so afraid to lose you. "

" You told me that Yonghwa, your boyfriend will be waiting for you at the airport. I just wanted to hold you close to me but you ran away.... thats when you got hit by an oncoming car."

" We rushed you to the hospital. You got a big bruise on your cheek." He slide his fingers on her face at the memory but Lianee was shocked. She wanted to run away from him and his voice but her feet wouldnt move and do her bidding. So instead she listened with dread at his story as it unfolds. He doesnt seem to be aware of her predicament. 

" Your arm was placed in a sling and at first we thought everything was okay. You didnt suffer any visible trauma other than some bruises. You were out for a good six hours. Your dad was still out of town but he said he will be arriving in three hours. " He look at her closely and smiled sadly. " I was ready you know? I already accepted the fact that you will leave me when you wake up. But when you opened your eyes, you asked me who I am. You remembered everything up until the day that you were bullied"

He started to pace in front of her as she bit her lip. She wanted him to stop talking and she even voiced that out, but Hongki continued talking. 

" You told me that you are living with your dad and he enrolled you in gym. I was overjoyed lianee.. I felt that finally, fate has given me a chance. I know its wrong to deceive you but I cant let go of the possibility that you will love me more than you love him.

So I lied. I told you that you were in an accident and I am your boyfriend of three years. You didnt seem to remember when you said yes to me and I was a bit hesitant to tell you. I keep on thinking , what if you remember but after telling you that I saved you from the bullies in your old school you smiled at me. Your face light up as you squeeze my hand and I felt so happy. So much, that I thought I can go on.. we can go on and everything will be okay.  But your mom called. She confirmed your flight and  you were so happy to hear from her. I wanted to prevent you from going back but seeing your happy face, I cant. I know how much you missed your mom. I didnt show you how uneasy it made me. I know sooner or later you will know the truth.  Im sorry honey. Im really really sorry..'"

He cried as he apologize. 

Tears fell on her face again as she remembered. She cant muffle the sobs that racked her chest. Her  bedroom door suddenly opened and she was engulfed in a fierce hug.  Her heart ache and she cried wretchedly. 

Her tired mind and body msut have felt its too much and she felt herslf slipping away. She welcomed the darkness that descended on her. Her eyes closing as she sighed.
