CH 4 - A Little Bit of Talent

Let's just say... Music could be one of my favourite subjects... unless all of the popular b*tches take the course. I walked up to the Music department to find the correct classroom, and outside of the door were almost all of the popular girls... taking Music.

Welp... great.

"Hey Cat!" I looked around to see Toby on the line: smiling. "I didn't know you take Music class?" He was on his own at the back of the line. I walked over to him without attention and waved back.

I said, "Hi Toby! I didn't you took this class either, I thought you're doing A Levels?" He shrugged and said anyone can take the class, but only if you're 16 and above. Nodding, the door opened and all of us piled in to the classroom. Everyone had already took a seat - which probably was their normal position - which also meant I was the only one who didn't know where the heck I was going to sit. Toby had mysteriously disappeared and somehow got into his own table at the back of the room. Standing there awkwardly, I got introduced again and was sent to go sit down next to Toby (thankfully).

For the first ten minutes of the lessons, the teacher taken in some information from us. Like: what made you take this class or... what do you like to play and so on. Soon after, we were given a task to either perform or explain what our 'musical gift was'. I knew by the minute after: that Paige was going to sing, since she turned around from her seat and told the whole class how perfect she was in her private singing classes - that her dad paid for £20 per lesson.

Her dad must've been really terrified when he couldn't say no to her.

Anyways, I got up from my seat and looked amongst the many doors which lead into practice rooms. Most of the popular girls stayed in the main room: thinking that they don't need to 'practice' their performance. Ignoring them, I found a small practice room without anyone in. There was a proper piano propped up against the wall and some stands and chairs lying around. Closing the door behind me, I pulled near a chair and sat on it. And slowly, I opened the flap that kept the keys from dust. It felt like a whole hour had passed by: just staring at keyboard endlessly.

All I had remembered from playing the piano was when I was first adopted - not Lewis and Hannah, but before I had caused so many troubles to Ellie and her family. I closed my eyes and held my hands in position. My feet were also positioned, ready to step on the peddles. I sighed and closed my eyes.

"I can't do this," I sighed and flopped my hands on the keyboard; creating a horrible sound. Hearing the door open and someone coming in, I dare not to look around just to see who it was.

"So you play piano huh?" I heard Toby as he came and sat down beside me.

Giving him a weak smile, I said: "When I was 8, then I forgot what the chords and scales are." I looked up at Toby to see him listening quite carefully at what I was saying. "Anyways... I learnt it when I was still in the orphanage back then. One of the carers: Joe, Ellie's carer. He taught me how to play the piano so I don't go on killing spree to the kids who'd bullied me. Since there was a piano in the orphanage, I learnt quite easily with him and he told me how to play and sing."

"So you sing as well?" He looked surprise, which kind of made me laugh slightly.

"Just a bit," I said modestly. "I'm not going to sing like Beckii Cruel or anyone..." We both laughed at my comments and started thinking mostly about our 'music talent' we were going to show. Toby had told me he was quite good on using music in the computers: such as making mash ups or remixes of his own. I found it interesting, not because I was trying to be nice and all but I found it interesting because I knew he was enjoying what he was doing.
