CH 17 – Breaking Down

Days felt so slow to me.

I was trying to hold myself most of the day as I tried to pull through school, forcing a smile and a laugh after joke after joke like an ordinary school day. After school at the club was worse; I felt tired to even make the effort of helping Skyla with the Minecraft building. Even though I was trying so hard to hide it, my paranoia was edging me to g race back to Yogtowers and get Ellie to safety. Luckily Ellie had not noticed the changed of times I go back from school. But whilst I felt worried for her, I felt guilty for intruding her personal bubble.

Her thirteenth birthday had came, and we decided to book a pub restaurant and eat out with the Yogs, Area 11 and her two best friends. Dad and I thought that it was too risky, though his reason was more of a YouTube reason whilst I secretly just wanted Ellie not to be out in the night – no matter how many people were turning up. I wasn't risking having Andy and his maniac of a gang of teens raid the restaurant.

In relief, Ellie didn't want a big massive dine out for her birthday.

"Can we just order Dominos Pizza and eat here?" Ellie suggested; we were lounging around in the upstairs big room with the large sofa, trying to think up ideas.

Uncle Simon spun around his chair and also suggested, "Oooh, can we order Jaffas as well? And some rabbit pie, yeah."

"Urm, no." Ellie furrowed her eyebrows. "Sorry Simon...but I don't like eating rabbits as much as you do."

Mum, Ellie and Simon carried on discussing about party plans whilst I was one my phone listening to songs. Distraction was the only thing I needed much as trying to subtly make sure my sister was alright.

The worse thing was that I hadn't contacted Jake for a fortnight since the incident. He encouraged me to keep my eyes on Ellie most of my time and never go back again. I only hoped that he's alright trying to calm the mad man who was my real dad. What I was mostly curious was how Jake had survived all his life to be cared for a damaged man. Did he still care for Andy back?

I tilted my head to find the three looking at me, as if they wanted some sort of answer back. "Um...did you need me or..."

"I was asking three times already, that is it alright with the office party thing?" Ellie questioned.

Answering, I shrugged. "Yeah sure, it's your decision Ellie. It's your party"

Hopefully they were satisfied with my reply since they all nodded in some agreement and ended the subject before turning back to an ordinary day where I could just worry two things.

Mum, Dad and I surprised her by wishing her a happy birthday when she woke up from her bed. Ellie couldn't be more happier but spend it with us once Mum gave out her birthday breakfast. Uncle Simon even went round that morning to give her his present – which was a smaller Mandrew Onesie – and had breakfast with us.

Then the day involved trying to get the common room back to its other form. Dad somehow got rid of the large conference table and traded it with small desks and sofas. The office now had a proper common room to just hang about or let Ellie and I muck about instead of hanging out back at the flat. There was a box filled with either Ellie's art equipment or my study books or music scores that Mum bought a month before.

"I'm thirteen, Cat!" Ellie squealed whilst we were placing the paper cups down. "I'm now technically called a teenager now."

I smirked. "Wow...it kind makes me feel old. I am turning eighteen this year."
