CH 18 – A Promise Ring

I was still grounded after what had happened during Ellie's birthday. Luckily Dad didn't even mention a word about it until the party had finished. Well...it was actually me who broke it down to Ellie that I had a friend called Jake Pike. It was a little surprising when she said;

"Hey, Will – my friend – has a surname called Pike!" Ellie wondered. "I wonder if he has a long lost brother..."

I pursed my lips as I answered back: "Maybe..."

Ever since Ellie's birthday, I begin to grow anxious about her own being. Dad never spoken off about what I had said, only focusing how I had been illegally drinking. Mum was furious when Dad told her, which sent me to isolation and told to be kept in my room or in the house every weekend. It was more upsetting was that they would never allow me to go home anymore with Georgie and Piper.

I had lost their trust...but I had to get it back.

Although my movements were restricted, at least I had my friends at school s well as secretly talking to Jake around the school grounds. I had focused my attention to Toby and Ellie for once, even though my worries were slowly getting worse.

Ellie had decided to record a video one day, and asked if I could be there in the video. I was a little hasty, but after a bit more encouragement I obliged the offer. We played a bit Modded Minecraft; she showed me her base on the Yogscast server before we mucked about. Sadly we couldn't really damage anyone else's work (Kirin found us right before we were trying to blow up Hatfilms' base).

When the video was finished, I was struggling between my consciences. There were many ways how I could have played it out: tell her about a man was going to get her or I discovered that our real biological father was alive. Of course if I put them together, it would seem that I was literally pulling her out of the safety. I was going to tell her the truth.

"Cat." Ellie sang my name for my attention.

I shook my head, letting my headset fall as I cursed. "What is it?"

Ellie rolled her eyes; we were sat next to each other in her office with two computers. "Are you alright? You haven't been yourself for the past few weeks now...Is it exams or..."

"No,no,no." I shook my head. "But...I really want to...I mean it's important to tell you...ugh!" Slamming my head on the desk, I heard a quiet chuckle from her. I got back up to rub my head.

Ellie smiled and questioned, "So what do you want to tell me then? Is it important?"

"Okay...I'll tell you quickly." I huffed. "But please...don't disrupt me; this is even difficult to say, and it's not even the thing I wanted to tell you."

Ellie's face fell from the usual contented one as I spun around towards her, facing her small delicate face. I tried not to close my eyes as I felt my eyes began to well up. Forcing them to stop, I held my tears together before I spoke.

"Ellie...Jake introduced me to someone..." I said. "And...I don't even know if I'm dreaming, but...he's alive. Our real dad is alive..."

I continued, tearing up a bit, "And...It was so shocking. I was so mad at him, but at the same time a bit happy that at least one person we actually relate to is alive! 'We have a father!'I said to myself. He was crying when he knew it was me. He's been looking for us for years!" Pausing, I wiped my eyes with the back of my hand.

"And all this time, he's been living homelessly – taking care of Jake since he was a kid. Can't you believe that?" I whispered. I didn't know how to feel, either happy or sad...though soon I had to tell her.
