Lycer's POV

"He has information that I need but he hasn't talked for the almost two years that he has been here. We have tried torture, starvation, and almost any other thing we could think of. There is one thing that might make him talk though. And that is that little runt Celestial." I stiffened at the mention of her name but I refused to look up.

"Who is he?" I rolled my eyes. I could remember this douche just by his voice. It was Christopher. The spoiled bastard who hurt Celestial.

"This, Christopher, is Lycer." I heard him in take a breath and chuckled.

"Ah, Lycer you are actually reacting to things today. good, that means you have healed enough to try again." I stiffened.

Every week or two the disgrace of a man that calls himself Malum comes down here and will drag me out of the cell. He takes me to this torture room that he had specially made for me. Electric torture strong enough to harm me seriously without actually killing me. He has special weapons that were made with wolves bane in them. It was a room full of painful screams and bloody floors. But I would happily go through it if it means keeping Celestial and my secret safe.

Images of her smile and big brown eyes flash across my mind. Her long brunette hair draping around her when she would lay down to look up at the stars. Her laugh echos so loudly that I think she is actually here laughing at some corny joke that I told her. But she isn't here.

It is a good thing that she isn't here. If they hurt her it would be to an extent that she couldn't take. She could barely handle Christopher. I couldn't protect her well here and if I was out there they would surely find her. I can't let that happen. I'm her protector, I will die to keep her safe.

"You are lucky that I am busy today. Just to make up for you not having a session you aren't allowed meals until I have time." I breathed a sigh of relief. My throat was still sore from screaming."Let's go Christopher. The sooner you get to know this place, the better. I am a busy man after all." I hear their footsteps go away from me and eventually I hear the sound of the loud door closing.

I bring my head up. He didn't leave a guard this time. Good. I lay down on the thin sheet of cotton that is my bed. Whenever anyone is around I sit up and look towards the ground. I feel like if they see me in the position forever then they will think I am uncomfortable and leave me alone. Bastards.

I sigh and close my eyes. I go over happy memories until I fall into a peaceful slumber.

"Lycer! I see you so just get down here already!" I look down to see Celestial. I smile and hop on different tree branches that get lower as I go. Eventually i just jump and land safely besides Celestial. She cringed. She hates it when I do that, says that it is creepy. I think she is just worried that I am going to get hurt one day.

"Celestial!" I pull her to me and spin her around. She laughs but pushes me away.

Her long brown hair was stating to get tangled together. It was always doing that. I grab her hand and lead her over to a log that was on the ground. "Sit down," I say in a gentle voice and she does. I go behind her and start to untangle her hair with my fingers. She hums in approval. She always loves it when I do her hair. Once her hair is untangled I slowly braid it and twist it into a knot on the back of her head.

I start to walk away, knowing that she will follow me. Just like I knew she would, she holds my hand in her own so she can keep up with my long strides better.

"What are we doing today?" When she visits me I usually teach her stuff that no one is going to teach her. It started out with me stealing books and I would teach her how to read but then I started to teach her how to recognize where she was by the stars, how to climb trees, and other things. She has been wanting me to teach her how to hunt lately but she isn't ready for it. I am surprised that she can sneak out of her group with how bad she is at sneaking around. She definitely won't be able to catch an animal.

"Well I got a new book, would you like to read it?" I look down at her. She is really short compared to me. Almost two heads shorter but she is only thirteen. One day we won't have a huge height difference but I can tell that she is going to stay at least a bit shorter than me.

Celestial nods eagerly at my question. "Can we please! We haven't read anything in forever!" I laugh at her and nod.

I go to a small clearing where it is really grassy so we can be comfortable when we sit down. I pull out a book out of my pocket and sit down. Celeste sits down and lays her head down on my shoulder. I open the book and start to read softly, knowing that Celeste will fall asleep. It was really late after all and I know that she usually has trouble sleeping. I'll just carry her back to where her group is and wake her up so she can walk past them. If I was to walk past them they would smell me and attack me.

"I have not slept. Between the acting of a dreadful thing and the first motion, all the interim is like a phantasma, or a hidden dream: The Genius and the mortal instruments and then in the council; and the state of man, like to a little kingdom, suffers then. The nature of an insurrection. -William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar

"Part One Dark Descent

"I sung of Chaos and eternal Night, taught by the heav'nly Muse to venture down the dark descent, and up to reascend. . . -John Milton, Paradise Lost

""You've got to be kidding me," the bouncer said, folding his arms across his massive chest. He stared down at the boy in the red zip up. . ." I continued to read the story until I felt the thirteen year old girl beside be fall asleep. I sighed and picked her up. I started to walk back to her group, knowing that I would see her tomorrow.
